Lake Superior Consulting in Duluth, MN seeks an entry-level Electrical Engineer I for Spring 2027. You will participate in industrial energy projects across oil & gas, solar, utilities, and manufacturing, from inception to delivery.

Initial work focuses on CAD, with progression into power, controls, instrumentation, and communications design. You'll gain exposure to ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and arc flash studies while collaborating with engineers and clients.

Qualifications

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
• Practical or hands-on experience in power, control, and communications systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering, CAD design, and drafting duties to assist senior engineers in the design of electrical construction packages.
• Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians to complete designs of large and complex industrial systems.
• Create design documents and drawings: one-line/three-line diagrams, protection/control schematics, wiring diagrams, layouts, sections, and schedules.
• Design tasks: engineering calculations, studies, detailed design, report writing, field investigations and construction support.
• Duties may include field wiring and testing of electrical systems and coordination with design/commissioning teams.

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking an Electrical Engineer (entry level) to join our team in Duluth, MN for Spring 2027. The Electrical Engineer I will participate in engineering and detailed design of industrial energy-related (oil and gas, solar, utilities, manufacturing) projects from inception through to delivery. Projects will be multi-disciplined covering civil, mechanical, and electrical scopes, with a strong focus on the power, controls, and communications area of the projects. Entry-level electrical engineering position. The position will start out learning the fundamentals of electrical engineering and design. Initial efforts will involve engineering and CAD duties to assist more senior engineers in the design of complex systems. Engineering and design will be of a multi-disciplinary nature, with most of direct efforts involving electrical power, controls, instrumentation, and communication. The successful candidate will be expected to gain an overall understanding of all aspects of electrical and controls engineering. Responsibilities will also include field inspection of client assets to verify scope of work and support design considerations for construction.

Responsibilities

• Perform engineering, CAD design, and drafting duties to assist senior engineers in the design of electrical construction packages.
• Work closely with a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and technicians to complete designs of large and complex industrial systems.
• Work with the project team to create all design documents and drawings, including one-line and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, communications diagrams, wiring diagrams, layout plans, section and detail drawings, cable and conduit schedules, and incorporation of mark-ups for projects.
• Design responsibilities: engineering calculations, studies, detailed design, report writing, field investigations and construction support.
• Duties may include field wiring and testing of electrical systems, working with both the design and commissioning teams at LSC.
• Apply engineering theory and application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, equipment sizing, wire sizing, relay coordination, and Arc Flash electrical studies.
• Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project lead, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.
• Occasionally interacts with clients, vendors and contractors.
• Support field investigations of client assets including notes, photos, measurements, 3D laser scanning and reporting.
• Professional licensure will be a requirement in the future as the successful candidate progresses through their career. A preference will be given to those who have successfully passed the FE exam.

Position Requirements

Education, Certifications/Licenses, Experience

• BS in Electrical Engineering or related discipline
• Practical or hands-on experience in power, control, and communications systems preferred.

• Works well under pressure and tight deadlines.
• Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
• Travel up to 10% is a requirement of this position, with possible field engineering support for extended periods. Generally, this position will have limited travel, but projects may require travel to client sites.

• Frequent periods of standing for long durations.
• Occasional lifting in up to 50lbs.
• Exposure to weather including heat and cold climates.
• Ability to work long hours and possible overtime when projects demand.
