Job summary

Lake Superior Consulting is seeking an Electrical Engineer II/III to join our growing team. This position involves designing electrical/control systems for diverse industrial projects, from concept to commissioning, with opportunities to lead and mentor others.

Ideal candidates have a B.S. in electrical engineering, 1–3+ years (II) or 3+ years (III), and familiarity with NEC, SCADA, and power systems. Travel up to 10% is expected; remote work options may be considered.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or similar field.
  • Engineer II: typically 1–3+ years of related engineering experience.
  • Engineer III: typically 3+ years of related engineering experience.
  • EIT license preferred; PE license a plus for Engineer III.
  • Experience with power, control, and communications systems preferred.

Lake Superior Consulting (LSC) is seeking an Electrical Engineer II / III to join our growing engineering team. This position offers the opportunity to work on a diverse range of energy and industrial projects, including oil and gas, power generation, utilities, renewables.

You will be involved in projects from concept and design through construction and commissioning, working alongside multidisciplinary teams and gaining exposure to a diverse range of projects.

Location: Duluth, MN; Omaha, NE; Minneapolis, MN; Nashville, TN; Houston, TX; Pittsburgh, PA; Traverse City, MI. We will also consider a remote location for this role.

Responsibilities
  • Perform CAD design and drafting duties to assist engineers in the design of electrical and control systems.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams of engineers and technicians to complete the design of large and complex industrial systems.
  • Lead moderate to large-sized projects and make decisions and recommendations on technical or complex issues, as experience and project assignment warrant.
  • Exercise judgment and initiative in interpreting policies and planning and implementing work assignments.
  • Work with the project team to create design documents and drawings, including one- and three-line diagrams, protection and control schematics, communications diagrams, wiring diagrams, plan views, station layout plans, sections, detail drawings, and application of mark-ups for projects.
  • Develop specifications for the procurement, installation, and testing of electrical equipment.
  • Perform engineering calculations, studies, detailed design, report writing, field investigations, and construction support.
  • Provide design and design review support and direction to lower-level engineers and/or designers, as appropriate to the position level and experience.
  • Apply engineering application software to complete engineering tasks such as ground grid design, equipment sizing, relay coordination, and electrical studies.
  • Participate in field wiring and testing of electrical and controls circuits, working with both the design and commissioning teams at LSC.
  • Assist with the preparation of survey and design reports and final project reports.
  • Communicate and coordinate project activities with the project lead, customer representatives, and other stakeholders.
  • Manage changes in project scope, identify potential risks, and work with the Lead Engineer to develop contingency plans.
  • Interact frequently with clients, vendors, and contractors.
  • Recommend modifications to senior personnel for approval when appropriate.
  • For Engineer III-level assignments, provide greater technical leadership and direction on projects and design activities based on experience and demonstrated capability.
Position Requirements
Education, Certifications & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a similar engineering discipline.
  • Engineer II: Typically, 1–3+ years of related engineering experience.
  • Engineer III: Typically, 3+ years of related engineering experience.
  • EIT license is preferred.
  • PE license a plus particularly for Engineer III-level candidates.
  • Practical or hands-on experience in power, control, and communications systems preferred.
  • Direct experience related to power plants and substation design is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the application of the National Electrical Code (NEC).
  • Knowledge and understanding of electrical safety systems and NFPA 70E.
  • Field experience supporting projects that are in construction is a plus.
  • Instrumentation and control (I&C) design experience, including SCADA, control systems, control panels, instrument specification, network architectures, PLC design, and control strategies, is a plus.
  • Broad electrical engineering background, including experience with control systems and/or motor control centers, is preferred.
  • Willingness to travel up to 10% withpossible fieldengineering support for extended periods.
  • Ability to think conceptually and drive an idea from conception through to implementation.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload for self and others.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead and direct project personnel, particularly at the Engineer III level.
  • Strong communication and follow-up skills.
  • Ability to work well under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Ability to adapt to rapidly changing circumstances.
  • Self-motivated with an initiative to deliver high-quality, technically sound electrical designs.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Lake Superior Consulting offers a competitive compensation package. The actual starting salary will be determined based on a variety of factors, including your skills, experience, and office/market location. The anticipated salary/hourly range for this position is $78,000-$115,000.
