Job summary

AMEWAS in Patuxent River, MD is seeking an Electrical Engineer (EMI)-Journeyman to support E3 EMI testing. The role requires a Bachelor's in Electrical Engineering, 3 years of experience, and DoD Secret clearance.

On-site work only, with hands-on testing in EMI/RF labs. You will prepare MIL-STD-461 compliant tests, install SUT in shielded enclosures, analyze results, document procedures, and ensure calibration of test equipment.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering required.
  • Minimum 3 years relevant work experience.
  • Experience with EMI/RF lab test equipment.
  • Experience reading schematics and technical drawings.
  • Experience basic electrical troubleshooting.
  • Current DoD Secret Clearance required on onboarding.
  • Proficiency with Windows OS and MS Office.

Responsibilities

  • Supports EMI team in E3 group at NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV.
  • Prepares and conducts EMI/EMC tests to MIL-STD-461.
  • Installs System Under Test in shielded enclosure per test plan.
  • Verifies SUT operation and defines failure criteria.
  • Ensures test equipment is calibrated and operating correctly.
  • Performs setup and calibration measurements per standard.
  • Executes testing and notes deviations.
  • Develops test documentation and presents results to stakeholders.

The Position:

AMEWAS is seeking a highly motivated and talented Electrical Engineer (EMI)-Journeyman to support Electromagnetic Environmental Effects. The salary range of this position is $97,500.00 - $165,000.00 and is commensurate with experience. This position is not eligible for remote work; on-site support is required.

Position Background:

The Integrated Battlespace Simulation and Test (IBST) Department’s E3 facility is the center of excellence in aircraft E3 Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation. Our state-of-the-art laboratories specializes in a variety of capabilities, ranging from box level to complete system level testing. The E3 vision is to be dedicated to improving current and future DoD Test & Evaluation capabilities; in simulation of operational and threat environments, high-energy physics and directed energy weapons by empowering the workforce to approach solutions from outside of the box. With IBST at the helm, we’re not just preparing for the future but shaping it.

A typical day as an Electrical Engineer (EMI)-Journeyman may include:
  • Serves as an Electrical Engineer-Junior in the Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3), NAVAIRWARCENAC DIV, Research, Development, Test, and Evaluation (RDT&E) group supporting the Electromagnetic Interference (EMI) team
  • Prepares and conducts EMI/EMC tests using MIL-STD-461 standards
  • Installs the System Under Test (SUT) in the shielded enclosure in accordance with the test plan and current test standard
  • Works with customer and team members to verify that the SUT is operational and defines failure criteria
  • Verifies that the detection system test equipment is in calibration and that it is operating correctly
  • Performs setup and calibration measurements per the applicable standard for test events
  • Executes testing and points out deviations resulting from equipment malfunction or observational errors
  • Develops test documentation (plans, procedures, reports, etc.) and presents test results to internal and external customers
  • Establishes/Maintains effective working relationships within the department
  • Interacts appropriately with others to maintain a positive and productive work environment
  • Performs other duties as necessary
Must-haves:
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering or related field may qualify
  • 3 years of relevant work experience
  • Experience with typical EMI/RF lab test equipment (Spectrum Analyzer, Oscilloscope, Receivers, Antennas, Amplifiers, Multi-meters, etc.)
  • Experience reading and understanding schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings
  • Experience performing basic electrical troubleshooting and fault isolation
  • Experience performing basic engineering calculation and analysis
  • Proficiency Windows OS and Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, etc.)
  • Minimum clearance required to apply (candidates who do not currently hold the required clearance will not be considered): N/A
  • Current clearance required upon onboarding: DoD Secret Clearance
  • Additional Accesses: The ability to obtain and maintain the DoD security clearance eligibility and/or additional security access requirements necessary to perform the duties of the position, as required by the contract
Desired Skills:
  • Experience in Communication Systems, Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC), Electromagnetic Interference (EMI), Radar Systems, Electronic Warfare Systems, Electromagnetic (EM) field measurements, E3 testing, or Antenna/Receiver design
  • Experience of Agilent VEE, R&S EMC32, and TILE software
  • Knowledge of MIL-STD-461, IEEE-299, and/or RTCA/DO-160

Physical Environment and Working Conditions:

The physical environment for this position requires the employee to support various labs at PAX River. The physical environment also requires the employee to work in an office, sitting in a cubicle or at a desk, looking at a computer for part of the day.

The employee may be required to travel short distances to offices/conference rooms and buildings on site or near the work site. On rare occasions, overnight travel may be required.

The employee is required to stand, walk and/or move throughout the workday, often bending over and lifting items up to approximately 50 lbs. This position may also require driving government vehicles.
