Job summary

The Coats Company in Tennessee is seeking an Electrical Engineer / Designer II to join our R&D team. You will design, develop, document, and validate electrical systems for automotive service equipment, with emphasis on PCB design, electronics, and component-level engineering.

The role covers testing, production support, DFMEAs/PFMEAs, and ensuring reliability from concept through post-production, collaborating cross-functionally to bring robust products to market.

Qualifications

  • BS in electronics or electrical engineering from an accredited university.
  • Minimum 5 years of schematic layout/PCB design experience.
  • Experience with Altium for schematic/PCB design and manufacture.
  • Experience with soldering and through-hole placement.
  • Experience with board-level testing, component testing and qualification testing.
  • Experience generating DFMEA & PFMEA documentation.
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office applications.

  • Work in a cross-functional team to manage electrical design projects from concept to production.
  • Design, develop, and document PCB design and assembly with internal and external partners.
  • Lead component investigations for alternate designs to support production.
  • Own obsolescence investigations for all electrical parts and components.
  • Lead testing of electronic components and boards through development to post-production launch.
  • Support DFMEAs, PFMEAs and Control Plans for products.
  • Support top-level product testing and development as needed.
  • Implement best practices in electrical component and board design.

Job description

Electrical Engineer / Designer II – The Coats Company is seeking an experienced engineer to support our R&D team in the design, development, and validation of electrical systems used in our automotive service equipment. This role is heavily focused on electronics design, PCB development, and component-level engineering, with direct involvement in testing and production support.

You will play a key role in creating and maintaining detailed electrical documentation, supporting new product development, and ensuring the long-term reliability of electrical components from concept through post-production.

Responsibilities
  • Ability to work in a cross‑functional team with internal and external partners to help manage electrical design projects from conceptual design to production implementation.
  • Design, develop, and document printed circuit board design and assembly in collaboration with internal and external partners.
  • Lead component investigations for alternate designs to support ongoing production.
  • Own obsolescence investigations for all electrical parts and components.
  • Lead electronic component and board‑level testing through development and into post‑production launch to identify issues and root causes.
  • Support advanced design tools including DFMEAs, PFMEAs and Control Plans.
  • Support top‑level product testing and development where and when necessary.
  • Implement best practices in electrical component and board design.
Qualifications
  • Four‑year Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited university in electronics or electrical engineering/technology or equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years of schematic layout/PCB design experience required.
  • Experience with Altium as it relates to design and layout of electrical schematics and PCB design and manufacture.
  • Experience with soldering and through‑hole placement.
  • Experience with board‑level testing, component testing and selection, and overall qualification testing.
  • Experience with generating DFMEA & PFMEA documentation.
  • PC skills including Microsoft Office applications required.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with Altium advanced features including but not limited to circuit design, BOM layouts, and parts libraries.
  • Experience with designing and building board‑level test devices and performing Gage R&Rs.
  • Experience using electrical testing and measurement devices.
  • Experience with advanced circuit simulation tools.
