Job summary

Hydro is seeking an Electrical Engineer to lead power distribution and controls engineering for industrial equipment. You will review and approve electrical designs, manage installations and startups, and drive projects from scope through execution using the PESHA process.

Reporting to the Engineering Manager, you will collaborate with internal and external teams, suppliers, and contractors to ensure safe, on-time, on-budget execution and improve system reliability and performance.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (required).
  • Minimum 5 years in manufacturing as electrical engineer (required).
  • Experience reviewing electrical designs for industrial equipment (preferred).

Responsibilities

  • Lead electrical power and controls engineering for new and existing equipment.
  • Review and approve electrical designs and equipment specifications.
  • Manage installations, startups and troubleshooting of projects.
  • Collaborate with suppliers, contractors and internal teams on design reviews.
  • Ensure safety and reliability of electrical systems on site.
  • Drive capital projects from scope through execution and hand-off.

Education

What you will be doing?

Job Summary: This role is responsible for electrical power and controls engineering, including reviewing and approving electrical designs for new and existing equipment, equipment upgrades, design, material and service specification, and managing installations, startups, and troubleshooting. The Electrical Engineer will provide technical expertise in industrial power distribution systems, including 480V and higher-voltage infrastructure, while driving projects from scope definition through execution.

This position reports to Engineering Manager.

  • Lead the safe, on-time, and on-budget development and execution of capital projects.
  • Provide electrical engineering and design from concept through hand-off using the established PESHA process.
  • Collaborate with internal/external engineering resources, equipment suppliers, and construction contractors to review electrical designs, evaluate equipment specifications, and support successful project execution.
  • Perform engineering tasks including problem-solving, design calculations, equipment selection, electrical design, proposal reviews, and drawing management.
  • Ensure proper operation and safety of equipment and processes.
  • Recommend and implement changes to improve manufacturing value, electrical system reliabilityand system performance.
  • Ensure processes are capable, controlled, and meet delivery and cost targets.
  • Be present on the shop floor as needed, including accessing equipment via ladders or high reaches to evaluate progress and troubleshoot issues.
  • Manage contractors to ensure safe and productive execution of work.
What will make you successful?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related field. (required)
  • At least 5 years of professional experience in a manufacturing environment as an electrical engineer. (required)
  • Experience reviewing, evaluating, and providing technical recommendations on electrical designs for industrial equipment and manufacturing systems. (preferred)
  • Experience managing million dollar capital projects. (preferred)

Experience with industrial power distribution systems, including 480V distribution and/or medium-voltage systems. (preferred)
