SLB is seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the Engineering Lead and Product Engineering Manager. They will be accountable for the electrical scope and systems in large scale data centers across design, construction, assembly, testing, installation, and commissioning phases.
The Electrical Engineer is responsible for checking and approving drawings / designs; interface communication, and ensuring accuracy, reliability, efficiency, and safety of the electrical scope of work for Hyperscale Data Center Modules meets customer’s requirements and Industrial Standards. They will also support the plant during manufacturing and assist stakeholders in troubleshooting site installation and commissioning problems.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Check and approve drawings, information, and documentation to meet industrial standards to enable manufacturing and other departments to produce Data Center Infrastructure Modules.
- Attend and initiate design and development planning and review sessions to meet customer’s and industry’s needs.
- Prepare technical requisitions for electrical systems, fire systems, and various components.
- Review vendor quotations and provide feedback to procurement team.
- Prepare and complete various electrical engineering deliverable drawings, documents, and calculations such as electrical load list, cable sizing/schedule, single line diagrams.
- Design and complete earthing protection systems.
- Design and complete lighting studies and systems.
- Prepare bulk material take‑offs and detailed bill of materials.
- Think outside of the box to find creative and innovative solutions to reduce costs while managing impact to quality, cost, or schedule.
- Stay informed of new developments and requirements and recommend changes in programs and applications.
- Interpret, organize, and execute assignments in a self‑driven and self‑sufficient manner.
- Make independent decisions on technical problems and methods and represent the organization in meetings to resolve important questions.
- Apply advanced or state‑of‑the‑art knowledge to resolve crucial issues and unique conditions.
- Supervision received is essentially administrative, with assignments given in terms of broad general objectives.
- Analyze electrical systems to identify and resolve issues, including load balancing, capacity planning, and power consumption optimization.
- Stay up to date with advancements in electrical engineering and data center technologies and recommend new technologies to improve reliability and efficiency.
- Represent the company with customers during review meetings as the primary point of contact, responding to inquiries promptly and professionally.
- Provide technical support during construction, responding to RFIs and addressing issues as they arise.
- Attend job site visits, project meetings, and commissioning activities as needed.
Qualifications and Experience
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized university.
- Professional Engineering License (Strongly Preferred).
- 3 to 10 years of experience in electrical design and/or electrical engineering, with focus on data center infrastructure.
- Ability to produce drawings/sketches to illustrate design ideas.
- General knowledge and direct experience with construction, operation, and maintenance of data center or building electrical systems.
- Experience with high‑density data centers and hyperscale environments.
- Understanding of electrical power principles, components, and standards for power system equipment sizing and design.
- Understanding of the purpose of electrical systems for facilities.
- Knowledge of industry standards, codes, and regulations, including:
- IEC – International Electrotechnical Commission
- IBC – International Building Code
- OSHA – Occupational Safety and Health Administration
- NEC – National Electric Code
- NFPA – National Fire Protection Association
- Experience with computer‑aided design (CAD) and building information modeling (BIM) software.
- Fast track design/build projects and/or multiple significant upgrade projects.
- Detailed understanding of UPS, diesel generators, medium and low voltage electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives, automatic/static transfer switches, electrical control systems, low voltage rectification systems, and other critical electrical equipment found within data centers.
- Familiarity with medium and high voltage power distribution systems design.
- Basic understanding of mechanical equipment and system design within data center affecting electrical scope.
- Direct experience in negotiating with regulatory agencies regarding departures from code and achieving design approval and permitting.
- Mastery of Microsoft Office 365 Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Teams, SharePoint).
- Mastery of PDF Editor (Adobe, Foxit, or other equivalent).
- Mastery of ETAP.
- Mastery of Dialux.
- Operational knowledge of:
- SAP (ERP Tool with Engineering Modules and Transactions)
- SolidWorks.
- Autodesk Revit.
- Autodesk BIM 360.
- Autodesk AutoCAD.
- Navisworks Manager / Freedom.
- Fluency in English (written and verbal).
