Job summary

Southwire Company is seeking an Electrical Engineer Co-Op to gain hands-on experience supporting manufacturing operations at the North Campus in Carrollton, GA. You will work on electrical engineering principles, troubleshooting, and project execution alongside experienced engineers and maintenance professionals.

The role offers real-world applications of your studies, with projects spanning PLC programming, electrical schematics, and control-system upgrades.

Qualifications

• Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Basic understanding of electrical power distribution, industrial controls, PLCs, HMIs, drives, and networks.
• Ability to read electrical schematics and technical documentation.
• Interest in industrial automation and manufacturing systems.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with good communication.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
• Commitment to maintaining a safe work environment and following safety requirements.

Responsibilities

• Assist in troubleshooting electrical and control systems affecting production equipment and facility operations.
• Support root-cause analysis to improve reliability and performance.
• Gain experience with PLC programming and troubleshooting (Siemens and Allen‑Bradley).
• Assist in development, modification, and documentation of ladder logic and control system programs.
• Create and maintain electrical schematics, procedures, and system documentation.
• Participate in installation, startup, testing, and commissioning of new equipment and control upgrades.
• Assist with design and implementation of engineered solutions for electrical and automation projects.
• Support selection, specification, and application of electrical controls equipment and field devices.
• Collaborate with operations, maintenance, engineering, contractors, and vendors to complete projects safely.
• Provide support for instrumentation, automation, networking, and SCADA applications.
• Assist in training operators and technicians on new equipment and processes.
• Develop knowledge of electrical systems, NEC and NFPA 70E requirements.
• Stay informed on emerging technologies and best practices and apply them where appropriate.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives focused on safety, quality, productivity, energy efficiency, and equipment reliability.
