Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking a Electrical Engineer with a background in power systems to join our Nuclear Power Group in a hybrid role. You will work with engineers and designers on electrical power systems design, calculations, and specifications.

The position emphasizes collaboration, on-site presence 3 days per week, training, and opportunities to contribute to plant design reviews and field verifications. Strong communication and analytical skills are essential.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with strong power systems knowledge.
  • 1+ year of power analysis experience, preferably in the power industry.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills for design documentation and reviews.
  • Ability to apply engineering principles to project designs and calculations.

Responsibilities

  • Design electrical systems for nuclear power projects and related modifications.
  • Prepare complex calculations, load flow, short circuit, and power flow analyses.
  • Develop system impact studies, cable ampacity, and equipment specifications.
  • Draft design inputs, reports, and procurement specifications.
  • Collaborate with engineers and designers and participate in design reviews and field verifications.

Description

This position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in Electrical Engineering in a professional position that offers a wide range of interesting and challenging responsibilities.

The opportunity will have you teaming up with other engineers and designers involved in nuclear plant electrical systems betterment and associated modifications, which will include the following:

  • Electrical systems design
  • Preparation of complex calculations
  • Load flow and short circuit
  • Power flow
  • System Impact
  • Cable ampacity
  • Preparation of documented design inputs
  • Preparation of equipment and material specifications
  • Preparation of design reports

Additional opportunities will include:

  • Receive training and mentorship from experienced engineers in the execution of meaningful project engineering assignments
  • Become involved in power distribution designs and the preparation of specifications for the procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services
  • Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs

This position is based on a hybrid work schedule and will require in-office work 3 days per week.

Essential skills and experience:

  • BS or MS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited program with a strong academic background in electrical power concepts/power systems analysis
  • 1 or more years of experience in performing power analysis, preferably within the power industry
  • An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering and technology including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles involved in the production of technical plans, drawings, and models
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills are necessary
  • Strong problem solving skills are desired

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Experience performing transient analysis of power systems using software such as ETAP or SKM

  • You are expected to take engineering problems from issue to solution using data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost-effective designs.
  • Many engineers in these roles build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation, including appropriate use of agentic AI tools, with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.

Compensation Range

$69,298 - $99,644
