Job summary

Sargent & Lundy is seeking an electrical engineer to join a project team focused on design, modification, and analysis of new and existing power plant electrical systems. You will handle complex calculations, support project leaders, and contribute to on-time, on-budget project delivery.

Essential skills include a BS in Electrical Engineering and 3+ years in power-plant design, with strong communication and teamwork abilities.

Qualifications

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required.
  • 3+ years of experience in electrical engineering design for power plants in a project team environment.
  • Experience with medium/low voltage distribution, transformers, generators, motors, equipment selection, and calculations.
  • Experience serving as a client liaison in a lead or support engineering role.
  • Experience reviewing design drawings and collaborating with teams.
  • Strong written and verbal communication and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

  • Design, modify, and analyze electrical systems for power plants in a project team.
  • Prepare and review calculations: short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting, protective relay settings.
  • Develop project work plans and ensure on-time, on-budget delivery.
  • Produce engineering documentation for input for drawings and reports.
  • Review reports and studies meeting client requirements and company formats.
  • Perform independent reviews of colleagues' calculations and drawings.

Description
  • Under the direction of the electrical engineering lead or project manager, this position will offer you the opportunity to work in a project team environment with other engineers and designers involved in the design, modification, and analysis of new and existing power plant electrical systems
  • You will work on challenging assignments that include investigating, trouble‑shuting, and solving a wide variety of electrical engineering issues
  • Assist the electrical engineering lead or project manager in efforts to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget
  • Prepare and review detailed calculations, including three phase AC and DC power studies, short circuit, voltage drop, motor starting and protective relay settings
  • Prepare engineering documentation for design input for drawing production
  • Prepare and review engineering reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats
  • Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations and drawing preparation
  • Develop project work plans

Essential skills and experience:

  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET-accredited engineering program is required
  • 3 or more years of experience in the design of electrical engineering systems in a project team environment with a focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants, or modifications or replacements for existing plants; experience should include the selection of equipment, materials, control philosophy, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications
  • Experience is required with electrical system design including medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors), equipment selection, and analytical calculations
  • Experience with serving as firm/client liaison in a support or lead engineering role
  • Experience in reviewing design drawings created by others
  • Effective critical thinking and problem solving skills
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills
  • Effective working in teams and individual work
  • Detail oriented approach to work

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • PE license
  • MSEE
  • Construction and start‑up experience a plus

  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • We also value additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other training in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that helps you apply automation or agentic AI to real engineering problems.
