Job description

Hiring Information

Hybrid work schedule: office 3 days per week.

Responsibilities
  • Utilize and expand professional and academic background in Electrical Engineering on projects ranging from existing power plant retrofit, new generation installations, renewable energy, oil & gas, and other industrial facilities.
  • Work under the direction of the project lead in a project‑team environment with other engineers and designers on design, modification, and analysis of new and existing power plant and industrial plant electrical systems.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and solve a wide variety of electrical engineering issues.
  • Participate in power distribution designs and prepare specifications for procurement of major electrical power equipment and related installation services.
  • Support the project lead in coordinating systems‑design activities to ensure installations and operations comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
  • Prepare functional design drawings—including single‑line, relay and metering, cable block, and schematic diagrams—as well as documentation for design input for other drawing production and 3‑D modeling.
  • Prepare detailed calculations, including auxiliary power system studies, voltage‑drop, protective relay settings, and arc‑flash calculations.
  • Interface with vendors to prepare bills of material, equipment purchase specifications, and provide recommendations to the client.
  • Develop career via peer‑learning through S&L’s systems of process and associated Communities of Practice.
  • Potential to travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification of designs.
Qualifications
  • A BS in Electrical Engineering from an ABET‑accredited program is required; emphasis in power systems preferred.
  • Familiarity with medium and low voltage distribution systems (transformers, generators, motors) and equipment selection.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools, and principles for producing technical plans, drawings, and models.
  • Proficiency with MS Office applications.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience in electrical engineering system design in a project‑team environment, with focus on integrated, detailed system design for new plants or modifications of existing plants.
  • Experience with construction and start‑up is a plus.
  • Experience preparing engineering design calculations and drawings.
  • Programming or scripting (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate calculations, design checks, reporting, or data transformation is valued but not required.
  • Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) exam and designation as an Engineer in Training (EIT) is valued but not required.
AI & Automation
  • Use data and modern tools such as automation and AI to improve workflows, reduce rework, and deliver cost‑effective designs.
  • Build or use automation to create calculations, summarize technical documents, or draft design documentation with strong engineering judgment and verification of results.
  • Additional learning in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields is valued.
