Job description

Reports to: Director, Engineering & Controls – Data Center, Americas

About the Company

A global leader in energy-efficient air technology and mission-critical cooling solutions is expanding its Data Center Engineering organization across North America.

With more than a century of engineering heritage and operations across multiple international markets, the company designs and manufactures high-performance thermal management equipment for hyperscale, colocation, and enterprise data center operators.

  • Computer Room Air Handlers (CRAH)
  • Custom Air Handling Units (AHU)
  • Fan Coil Units and Fan Coil Walls (FCU/FCW)
  • Coolant Distribution Units (CDU), including direct-expansion and liquid-to-liquid configurations

The organization is investing heavily in its in-house Electrical and Controls Engineering capabilities while undertaking a major product standardization initiative. The objective is to move from project-by-project engineering toward a controlled, scalable standard product architecture.

This is a key opportunity to join that transformation at an early stage.

Position Summary

The Senior Electrical Engineer will own the electrical design of data center cooling equipment from initial concept through production release and field commissioning.

The role will focus heavily on developing UL 508A-compliant control panel designs, producing complete electrical schematic packages using EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD Electrical, and independently completing the engineering calculations required to substantiate electrical designs.

A major component of the position will be converting outsourced, project-specific drawing packages into controlled, reusable, in-house standard designs across CRAH, AHU, FCU/FCW, and CDU product platforms.

This is a hands-on senior individual contributor position with significant design authority and visibility across engineering, manufacturing, suppliers, panel builders, and major data center customers.

Key Responsibilities
Electrical Design & Schematic Development
  • Develop complete electrical schematic packages covering power distribution, motor/VFD circuits, control circuits, safety circuits, terminal plans, panel layouts, wire/cable schedules, and interconnection diagrams using EPLAN Electric P8 and AutoCAD Electrical.

  • Design power circuits for EC fan arrays, VFD-driven pumps and fans, transformers, control power supplies, UPS backup circuits, and heater loads across 120V–600V, single- and three-phase, 50/60 Hz systems.
  • Design low-voltage control and instrumentation wiring for Siemens Climatix controllers, I/O extension modules, HMIs, sensors, safety relays, and BACnet/Modbus network segments.
  • Design hardwired safety chains including HOA, E-stop, smoke detection, leak detection, and external interlocks using fail-safe, normally-closed architecture.
Engineering Calculations & Analysis
  • Perform Full Load Amps (FLA) and Minimum Circuit Ampacity (MCA) / Maximum Overcurrent Protection (MOP) calculations for complete units in accordance with NEC and applicable UL standards.
