Job description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer
Job Description

The Electrical Engineer will serve as a key technical contributor responsible for designing, validating, and supporting power electronics and LED driver products from concept through production. This role focuses heavily on electrical design and product development, including circuit and PCB design, hardware validation, and continuous improvement of existing products. The position requires close collaboration with engineering, manufacturing, and customer-facing teams to ensure reliable, high-quality products that meet performance, safety, and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical circuits and printed circuit boards (PCBs) for LED drivers, control systems, and power electronics products.
  • Utilize Altium Designer for schematic capture and PCB layout, and maintain accurate, up-to-date ECAD data for all assigned designs.
  • Develop early-phase research and development prototypes and proof-of-concept designs to validate new ideas and architectures.
  • Create, execute, and document comprehensive hardware validation plans to ensure product performance, reliability, and safety.
  • Support UL certification activities for new product development by preparing documentation, addressing findings, and refining designs as needed.
  • Drive continuous product improvement by analyzing field performance, conducting root cause investigations, and implementing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Design and implement production test fixtures and procedures for PCBA validation at volume to ensure consistent manufacturing quality.
  • Manage assigned projects end-to-end, including planning, scheduling, risk identification, and proactive communication of status and issues to stakeholders.
  • Own bill of materials (BOM) accuracy for assigned products and verify that all components meet design and performance requirements.
  • Validate incoming parts and assemblies against design specifications and quality standards, and coordinate resolution of any discrepancies.
  • Manage and approve alternate components, and proactively qualify alternates to mitigate supply chain risks.
  • Support internal SMT and PCBA manufacturing processes as a technical expert, resolving build issues and optimizing manufacturability.
  • Perform forensic analysis on electrical field returns and internal defects, identify root causes, and drive corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
  • Partner closely with manufacturing on first-run production builds, providing on-site support, feedback, and design updates as necessary.
  • Establish, document, and refine electrical test methods and procedures for development, validation, and production testing.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to Sales and Support teams, including explaining product capabilities, troubleshooting issues, and advising on application-specific considerations.
  • Contribute to a culture of continuous learning, attention to detail, and proactive problem-solving by sharing knowledge and best practices with the engineering team.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent demonstrated experience in power electronics design and PCB development.
  • Hands-on experience designing switching power supplies, LED drivers, or similar power electronics products.
  • Proficiency with Altium Designer or similar tools (such as Cadence, Allegro, or Eagle) for schematic capture and PCB layout.
  • Strong electrical engineering fundamentals, including circuit design, PCB layout, and power electronics principles.
  • Demonstrated experience in PCB design and circuit board design for production-ready products.
  • Strong laboratory skills, including proficient use of oscilloscopes, bench power supplies, digital multimeters (DMM), and other test equipment.
  • Ability to independently debug hardware at the circuit level, identify issues, and implement effective design or process corrections.
  • Experience with electrical testing, validation, and troubleshooting of hardware systems.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, maintain timelines, and communicate risks and status updates clearly and proactively.
  • Alignment with core values such as continuous learning, positive attitude, attention to detail, and a strong commitment to completing tasks and delivering results.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience working through UL certification processes (such as UL 1598, UL 8750, or similar standards).
  • Familiarity with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) testing methodologies, including conducted and radiated immunity and the IEC 61000 series.
  • Embedded firmware experience using C, Python, or similar languages for hardware-related applications.
  • Experience with industrial LED lighting products or three-phase power systems.
  • Experience with alternate ECAD tools such as Cadence Allegro or Eagle.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform root cause analysis on field returns and internal defects and implement corrective actions.
  • Experience designing and implementing production test fixtures for PCBA validation at volume.
  • Comfort working in a fast-growing, innovative environment with evolving processes and high expectations.
  • Interest in career growth into managerial-level responsibilities as the organization continues to expand.
  • Willingness to relocate, with relocation assistance available if needed.
