Assignments are outlined in terms of overall objectives and reviewed largely at completion. The engineer will initiate project planning and develop innovative designs to meet goals, while independently performing challenging engineering work with clear expectations. Responsibilities include documenting findings, presenting technical results, and representing the organization as the prime technical contact on small contracts or single-component projects.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Perform detailed design of electric energy storage, electric power conditioning, AC and DC distribution, and analog and digital control systems for operating electromechanical rotating machinery in the 10’s of MW range.
  • Size, select and design capacitor banks, solid state variable frequency power inverters for induction motors, resistive energy rejection systems, protection systems and analog, digital and imbedded control systems.
  • Document design in specifications covering functions, requirements and design selections.
  • Prepare procurement and fabrication drawings.
  • Prepare and help execute test plans to verify compliance with requirements.
  • Present design and analysis with clarity for reviews and produce all documents to meet strict configuration management procedures.

May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education.
  • Experience in planning, designing, fabricating, and testing advanced electric power inverters, power systems, analog and digital and imbedded control systems.
  • Must have a thorough understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory; experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts; and expanding knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties.
  • Must possess the ability to develop and communicate new concepts; apply them accurately throughout an evolving environment; organize, schedule, and coordinate work phases; and determine the appropriate approach at the task level or, with assistance, at the project level to provide solutions to a range of complex problems.
