Job summary

1X is seeking an Electrical Engineer to develop and validate electrical prototypes for NEO, turning concepts into buildable hardware. You will collaborate with the Prototyping team to ensure robust electrical designs that work in real-world robotic environments.

You will read and create schematics, wire harness documentation, and work with technicians to resolve issues discovered during assembly. This role emphasizes hands-on testing, iteration, and manufacturability improvements.

Qualifications

  • 3-7 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related hands-on hardware development role.
  • Experience developing and debugging electrical prototypes, harnesses, or cable assemblies.
  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring documentation.
  • Experience using measurement tools to test continuity and diagnose electrical faults.
  • Experience working with technicians or fabrication partners to build, test, and iterate on hardware.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and validate electrical prototypes and harnessing solutions for NEO, turning designs into reliable, buildable hardware.
  • Bridge the gap between electrical design and physical builds, using learnings from prototypes and testing to improve iterations.
  • Develop electrical prototypes, wire harnesses, and cable assembly designs to support testing and iteration.
  • Translate schematics into build documentation and collaborate with technicians to resolve issues found during assembly.
  • Plan and run continuity and fault-isolation testing, identifying opens, shorts, and connection issues before hardware moves downstream.
  • Debug issues on prototypes and on the robot, then make practical design or documentation changes based on findings.
  • Improve recurring builds through better documentation, fixturing, and design-for-manufacturability work with the wider team.
  • Partner across engineering and fabrication to move from early prototypes toward reliable, repeatable assemblies.

Job description

About 1X

We’re building humanoid robots that work in home - doing the chores, handling the tasks, and giving people their time back. Simple, but it’s not.

To do this right, we have to solve robotics, AI, manufacturing - at the same time, at scale, in a form factor that has to be safe enough to live with your family. If you’re inspired by this, you’ll thrive here. We’ve been at this since 2014 and we’re at the point where the hard problems are behind us and the hard work is in front of us.

NEO is our flagship - a home robot designed to move, learn, and operate in the real world alongside real people. We’re not demoing it - we’re shipping it. We’re excited to meet you, if this excites you.

If you’ve spent your career working on problems that matter and want to see them actually reach the world - this is that moment. We’re scaling, we’re hiring with intention, and we need people who want to build something that will genuinely change how humans spend their time - safely creating abundance for all.

About the Team

The Prototyping team turns ideas into physical reality.

We work closely with Industrial Design and Engineering to rapidly develop, build, and evaluate the physical systems and components that make up NEO. Our work spans digital models, functional prototypes, mockups, fabrication, materials, and production-intent assemblies.

We are looking for an Electrical Engineer to develop and validate electrical prototypes for NEO. You will work with engineers and technicians to turn electrical designs into physical builds, test what works, and resolve what does not before designs move forward.

This is a hands-on role for someone who can move between design, assembly, testing, and debugging, and who cares about how electrical systems are built as much as how they work on paper.

Your Charter

Develop and validate electrical prototypes and harnessing solutions for NEO, working with the Prototyping team to turn designs into reliable, buildable hardware.

You will bridge the gap between electrical design and physical builds, using what you learn from prototypes, testing, and rework to improve the next iteration.

Key Outcomes
  • Develop electrical prototypes, wire harnesses, and cable assembly designs that support testing and iteration on NEO.

  • Translate schematics and wiring diagrams into clear build documentation, and work with technicians to resolve issues found during assembly.

  • Plan and run continuity and fault-isolation testing, identifying opens, shorts, and connection issues before hardware moves downstream.

  • Debug issues on prototypes and on the robot, then make practical design or documentation changes based on what you find.

  • Improve recurring builds through better documentation, fixturing, and design-for-manufacturability work with the wider team.

  • Partner across engineering and fabrication to move from early prototypes toward reliable, repeatable assemblies.

Key Competencies

Electrical design and prototyping: You can turn electrical requirements into schematics, wiring documentation, and testable physical builds.

Diagnostic instinct: You isolate connection and circuit faults methodically and use test results to guide the next design iteration.

Build awareness: You understand how choices in routing, connections, and documentation affect assembly, rework, and reliability.

Collaboration: You work closely with technicians and other engineers, taking feedback from physical builds back into the design.

Minimum Requirements
  • 3-7 years of experience in electrical engineering or a related hands-on hardware development role.

  • Experience developing and debugging electrical prototypes, harnesses, or cable assemblies.

  • Ability to read and create electrical schematics and wiring documentation.

  • Experience using measurement tools to test continuity and diagnose electrical faults.

  • Experience working with technicians or fabrication partners to build, test, and iterate on hardware.

Preferred Skills
  • Experience with on-robot electrical debugging and rework.

  • Familiarity with IPC-620 acceptance criteria or IPC-7711 / 7722 rework standards.

  • Experience improving harness builds through fixturing, documentation, or design-for-manufacturability work.

  • Familiarity with power, signal, shielding, and grounding considerations in physical assemblies.

What does a successful 1X Team Member look like:

Team members at 1X who thrive here are builders. They move fast, own their work completely, and treat time like it’s the one thing you can’t get back - because it is. They say what they mean, finish what they start, and hold themselves to a standard before anyone has to ask. We push each other to be better, and we do it with honesty and respect.
Compensation Range: $175,000 - $215,000 per year

Benefits:

Comprehensive medical, dental, and vision coverage
