Job summary

Abbott in St. Paul, MN is seeking an Electrical Engineer on the Vascular R&D team to contribute to the design, development, and testing of next‑generation intravascular lithotripsy systems.

This hands‑on, systems‑focused role blends embedded electronics, firmware, and instrumentation to build custom lab systems, automate experiments, and generate data to guide engineering decisions for next‑generation products.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant hands-on engineering experience.
  • Experience with embedded systems, firmware, or hardware-software integrated systems.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with an experimental, systems-level mindset.
  • Ability to work with partial information and translate ideas into working systems without detailed requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Translate experimental goals into practical test setups with reliable data collection.
  • Design, build, and iterate on custom laboratory and automated test systems, including embedded controllers, motion or actuation elements, and data acquisition.
  • Develop and debug embedded firmware (C/C++) and supporting software (Python, Node.js).
  • Design, bring-up, and debug circuit boards in the lab.
  • Integrate hardware and software components into reliable systems for device characterization.
  • Collaborate with others on the R&D team to add features, refine prototypes, and improve performance.
  • Collect, review, and interpret experimental and prototype performance data; prepare technical summaries and present findings to internal stakeholders.
  • Document designs, experiments, and results to support engineering and regulatory processes.

The Opportunity

As an Electrical Engineer on the Vascular R&D team, you will contribute to the design, development, and testing of next‑generation intravascular lithotripsy (IVL) systems.

This role is highly hands‑on and systems‑focused, working at the intersection of embedded electronics, firmware, and instrumentation to build custom laboratory systems, automate R&D experiments, and collect valuable data to drive engineering decisions for next‑generation products.

This position is best suited to engineers who enjoy building and debugging systems from the ground up and iterating quickly to solve complex, sometimes ambiguous, multidisciplinary problems. You will collaborate with other electrical, software, and mechanical engineers to develop prototypes and continuously improve characterization methods. This position works out of our St. Paul, MN location.

What You’ll Work On

The base pay for this position is

$61,300.00 – $122,700.00
