Job summary

HGA is seeking an Electrical Engineer or Electrical Designer to join our Rochester, MN practice. You will work on healthcare, commercial, and government projects, applying Revit and advanced electrical design methods to create sustainable spaces.

The role requires 3–5+ years of relevant experience, professional licensure preferred, and familiarity with IECC/ASHRAE/NFPA standards. Join our team focused on collaboration, diversity, and community impact in a hybrid environment.

Qualifications

  • BS or MS in electrical engineering required.
  • 3–5+ years designing power systems for healthcare, commercial or government projects.
  • Professional licensure or ability to obtain licensure is highly preferred.
  • Experience with consulting engineering or A/E firms in electrical design.
  • Knowledge of IECC, LEED, ASHRAE and NFPA/NEC, FGI Guidelines and applicable codes.
  • Proficiency with Revit.
  • Familiarity with SKM, EasyPower, Helioscope and sustainable technologies.

  • Assess project requirements, break into tasks, and determine scope, budget, and staffing.
  • Collaborate with owners to define requirements, perform load calculations, analyze power distribution, size equipment, and draft specifications.
  • Document conditions and troubleshoot design/code issues; develop studies and schematic designs.
  • Design and integrate alternative energy sources with the building performance team.
  • Review drawings for code compliance and alignment with owner requirements and standards.
  • Leverage Revit as a design tool.
  • Mentor and educate design staff.

Responsibilities
  • Assess the requirements of a project, break a project into tasks and work with the design team to determine scope, budget, and staffing.
  • Leverage your expertise in electrical design to collaborate with owners in defining project requirements, perform building load calculations, analyze power distribution systems, size equipment, and prepare and edit specifications.
  • Document existing conditions and conduct detailed troubleshooting to resolve complex issues such as conflicting design requirements, code challenges, and difficult conditions. Develop engineering studies and schematic designs for new systems while analyzing the performance of existing systems.
  • Work with building performance team to design and integrate alternative energy sources into the electrical distribution to create sustainable designs.
  • Review drawings and documents to assure compliance with company design and production standards. Ensure drawings and designs are in accordance with code compliance, Owner\'s requirements, design standards and the quality expectations of HGA.
  • Leverage the power of Revit as a design tool.
  • Assist in the education and development of design staff and act as a resource for questions.
Qualifications
  • BS or MS degree in electrical engineering.
  • 3 to 5+ years of experience in the design of power systems for healthcare, commercial and/or government project types.
  • Professional licensure, or the ability to obtain licensure, is highly preferred.
  • Documented experience with a consulting engineering firm or A/E firm providing electrical design.
  • Knowledge of current technology applicable to IECC, LEED and ASHRAE requirements and all applicable codes (city, state, federal) as well as knowledge of NFPA/NEC Standards, other NFPA codes applicable to electrical design, and FGI Guidelines.
  • Proficiency with Revit software.
  • Familiarity with electrical analysis software (e.g., SKM, EasyPower, Helioscope) and knowledge of the current sustainable technologies applicable to the design of commercial electrical systems.
Salary Information

The pay range listed aligns to the geography of the office for which this position is posted. Actual compensation will be based upon work experience, education, licensure requirements and/or skill level and will be finalized at the time of offer. Individuals in this role working more than 24 hours a week on a regular basis are eligible to participate in HGA\'s robust benefit programs which include an annual bonus and success sharing bonus program, 401(k) guaranteed contribution, paid parental leave, medical, dental and life insurance plans as well as PTO and short- and long-term disability programs. Salary Range: $71,557 - $73,700 depending on qualifications and experience.
