Job summary

Power Device Corporation in Poway, CA is seeking a hardware engineer to design, develop, test and support digital electronic hardware for aerospace and defense products.

You will create schematics, support PCB layout, perform component selection and engineering analyses, and collaborate with Manufacturing Engineering during reviews. A Bachelors in Electrical/Computer Engineering and 3+ years in hardware design are required; this is 100% onsite.

The compensation for this role is $110,000 - $135,000 annually based on experience.

This position requires a U.S Person or a person who can qualify for a Department of State or Department of Commerce License.

Essential Functions

• Design, develop, document, test, and support digital electronic hardware for aerospace and defense products.
• Develop schematics and support PCB layout, fabrication, assembly, and board bring-up.
• Design processor, memory, FPGA, power, clocking, and communication interface circuitry.
• Perform component selection, design analysis, and engineering calculations.
• Support signal integrity, power integrity, timing, and interface analysis.
• Develop test procedures, test plans, and verification documentation.
• Debug and verify component, board, and system-level designs using laboratory equipment.
• Support hardware/software and FPGA integration activities.
• Participate in design reviews and provide technical support to Manufacturing Engineering.

Responsibilities

• Develop hardware designs that meet product performance, reliability, cost, and schedule requirements.
• Create schematics, design documentation, interface definitions, and engineering analyses.
• Work with PCB designers to define placement, routing, stack-up, impedance, and other layout requirements.
• Perform board bring-up, integration, troubleshooting, and verification.
• Evaluate components and technologies for new and existing designs.
• Investigate hardware defects and support root-cause and corrective-action activities.
• Participate in peer reviews and cross-functional engineering activities.
• Identify opportunities to improve design, test, and development processes.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

• Strong understanding of digital electronics and computer architecture.
• Experience with schematic capture and PCB design processes.
• Understanding of processors, FPGAs, memories, clocks, power supplies, and digital interfaces.
• Familiarity with high-speed digital design and signal integrity principles.
• Ability to read and interpret component datasheets and hardware specifications.
• Experience using oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, and other laboratory equipment.
• Familiarity with interfaces such as PCIe, Ethernet, DDR, SPI, I2C, UART, or similar technologies.
• Familiarity with FPGA design or hardware description languages such as VHDL or Verilog is preferred.
• Strong analytical, troubleshooting, communication, and teamwork skills.

Education / Experience

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field.
• 3+ years of relevant hardware or digital design experience.
