Job Title: Staff Electrical Engineer Surgical RoboticsJob Description

This role leads the design and development of electrical subsystems for a next-generation surgical robotic platform. You will work hands-on on PCBA design, system integration, testing, and troubleshooting, while collaborating closely with software, systems, mechanical, quality, manufacturing, and regulatory teams to deliver reliable electrical solutions from concept through commercialization.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the electrical design and development of a major subsystem within a surgical robotic platform.
  • Translate product and system needs into clear electrical requirements, interfaces, and detailed designs.
  • Design complex PCBAs, including schematic capture, component selection, and rigid, flex, and rigid-flex board designs.
  • Perform PCB layout reviews and drive board bring-up, characterization, testing, and debugging using Altium.
  • Integrate electrical hardware with embedded software, mechanical components, and the broader robotic system.
  • Lead technical tradeoff decisions that balance performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and risk.
  • Develop verification and EMC test strategies and support execution of testing at external laboratories and internal facilities.
  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and multidisciplinary system issues across hardware, software, and mechanical interfaces.
  • Support creation and maintenance of design documentation, including requirements, specifications, and design history artifacts.
  • Contribute to risk management activities, including identification, analysis, and mitigation of electrical and system-level risks.
  • Support design transfer to manufacturing and product commercialization activities for the surgical robotic platform.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners in Quality, Manufacturing, and Regulatory to ensure compliance with relevant standards and design controls.
  • Participate in continuous improvement of electrical design practices, test strategies, and development processes.
Essential Skills
  • Bachelors degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline.
  • 8+ years of electrical engineering experience.
  • Strong hands-on experience with PCBA design, including schematic design and component selection.
  • Proficiency with Altium for schematic design, layout review, and board bring-up activities.
  • Experience in PCB design and hardware design, including PCBA development.
  • Ability to integrate electrical hardware with embedded software and mechanical systems.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical engineering fundamentals and system-level design.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex electrical and multidisciplinary system issues.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Proven complex problem-solving skills in technically sophisticated product development environments.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Advanced PCBA design experience, including layout review, board bring-up, characterization, testing, and debugging.
  • Experience with rigid, flex, and rigid-flex PCB designs.
  • Experience integrating electrical hardware with software, mechanical subsystems, and system-level requirements in robotic or electromechanical products.
  • Knowledge of EMC/EMI design principles, testing methods, troubleshooting techniques, and design for manufacturability.
  • Experience developing complex electromechanical, robotic, medical, or other technically sophisticated products.
  • Experience guiding products from requirements and concept development through verification, design transfer, and commercialization.
  • Medical device development experience, including familiarity with design controls, risk management, IEC-related standards, and Design History File documentation.
  • Experience supporting EMC testing at external laboratories or internal facilities.
  • Background in robotics, including working with robotic subsystems and related electrical architectures.
  • Ability to lead technical tradeoff decisions involving performance, safety, reliability, manufacturability, cost, and risk.
