Job summary

Edgerun is seeking an Electrical Engineer to own the electrical system of the world’s most advanced powered exoskeleton, worn by soldiers in active combat. You will design and bring up PCBs, manage power, and integrate sensors alongside firmware and mechanical teams.

The role demands a BS in electrical engineering, 4+ years of board bring-up experience, battery/BMS design, and hands-on bench work with scopes and logic analyzers in demanding field conditions.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field.
  • 4+ years designing and bringing up boards for field use.
  • Experience with power and motor drive electronics for robots or similar electromechanical systems.
  • Lithium battery and BMS design experience.

Responsibilities

  • Design and bring up PCBs from schematic to working hardware
  • Own the power system end to end: battery, BMS, the 48V bus, protection, and the harness
  • Integrate the motor drives and take the electrical side of actuator performance
  • Own the sensor stack: inertial sensors, foot pressure, and motor encoders
  • Design for a device carried on a person all day, in dust, water, and cold, with parts that swap in the field
  • Work directly with mechanical and firmware to close the loop between power, control, and structure
  • Support field testing and turn failures in the field into changes to the boards

Job description

Edgerun's mission is to remove civilization-level physical constraints limiting the human body. We believe a future where humans keep pushing into the unknown is far better than one where we send machines in our place. That starts on the battlefield, doubling what a soldier can carry and how far they can carry it.

ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

As an Electrical Engineer, you will be responsible for the electrical system of the world's most advanced powered exoskeleton, worn by soldiers in active combat. You will work with a talented team of accomplished engineers to design and bring up the boards that drive the actuators, manage power, and carry every sensor on the device. You should thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where you adapt quickly and love to solve hard problems.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or another engineering discipline
  • 4+ years designing and bringing up boards that shipped and were used in the field
  • Experience with power and motor drive electronics for robots or similar electromechanical systems
  • Lithium battery and BMS design experience
PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • You have shipped a board with a motor drive and a battery on it, unsupervised
  • Battery pack design for a system that has to run all day on a tight power budget
  • High voltage layout practice: inrush, pre-charge, protection, and the failure modes that kill a driver on power-up
  • CAN as a comms backbone
  • Sensor integration and signal integrity on a device covered in wiring and moving joints
  • Design for EMI and for enclosures sealed against dust and water
  • Comfortable on the bench with a scope and a logic analyzer, debugging alongside firmware
  • Things you build outside work: motor controllers, drones, your own power electronics
HOW WE WORK
  • Hardware on real operators in real field conditions within weeks of concept, not years
  • Small team, one owner per category, nobody owning a slice of someone else's problem
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Full time and in person in Palo Alto
  • Hands on bench and assembly work
  • Travel to field tests, including overseas
  • Must be willing to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed
