Job summary

Kratos Defense and Security Solutions in Orlando is looking for an Electrical Engineer II to contribute expertise in electrical engineering to design, analyze, and manage electrical systems. This role involves developing electrical design documentation, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams, and ensuring compliance with regulations.

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years of experience in electrical engineering with a strong background in power distribution and control systems.

Qualifications

  • Strong understanding of circuit theory, electromagnetic principles, and related engineering concepts.
  • Experience with electrical testing, commissioning, and troubleshooting.

The Electrical Engineer provides expertise in electrical engineering principles, power systems, electronics, control systems, and relevant codes and standards to design, analyze, develop, test, and manage electrical systems and components, ensuring they meet project objectives.

Responsibilities
  • Analyzes project requirements, technical specifications, line diagrams and relevant codes and standards (e.g., NEC, NEMA, IEC, IEEE) to design, develop, and implement robust electrical systems for power distribution, lighting, grounding, control and communications.
  • Develops, reviews and maintains comprehensive electrical design documentation: schematics, wiring diagrams, panel schedules, cable tray layouts, equipment specifications, bills of materials and calculations using CAD and electrical design software (AutoCAD Electrical, Solidworks).
  • Performs electrical system calculations and analyses such as load flow, short‑circuit, arc flash, protective device coordination, voltage drop and lighting.
  • Selects and specifies electrical equipment, components and materials, ensuring compliance with project requirements and performance standards.
  • Contributes to design and integration of control systems (PLC programming, HMI).
  • Prepares and reviews scope of work documents, cost estimates and project schedules.
  • Oversees or participates in installation, testing, commissioning and troubleshooting of electrical systems and equipment.
  • Conducts site inspections and surveys to assess existing installations and gather data for new designs.
  • Collaborates with multidisciplinary engineering teams, project managers, clients and contractors to integrate electrical systems and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensures designs and installations comply with safety and regulatory requirements.
  • Provides technical support and guidance throughout the project life cycle.
Experience and Skills
  • Follows established electrical engineering design procedures and adheres to relevant industry codes and standards.
  • Interprets project specifications, one-line diagrams, control system narratives, P&IDs, vendor data and regulatory requirements.
  • Proficiency with electrical design and analysis software.
  • Strong understanding of electrical engineering principles (circuit theory, power systems, electromagnetics, electronics, control systems).
  • Experience designing power distribution, grounding, lighting, motor controls and protective relaying.
  • Performs critical calculations such as load, short‑circuit, arc flash, protective device coordination and voltage drop.
  • Experience with electrical testing, commissioning and troubleshooting.
  • Minimum 2 years of electrical engineering design experience in power distribution, industrial controls or building systems.
Preferred Skills/Experience
  • Experience with naval or industrial power plants.
  • Professional Engineer license or EIT certification.
  • Experience with BIM, Revit, Deltek CostPoint, SolidWorks, Jama, TIPQA.
  • Knowledge of ISO 9001 or other quality management systems.
  • Experience scripting languages (Python) for data analysis or automation.
  • Advanced proficiency with specialized electrical design software (ETAP, SKM, EasyPower, CDEGS, DIALux, AGI32).
  • Experience in PLC/DCS programming, HMI configuration, industrial network design (Ethernet/IP, Profibus, Modbus TCP).
  • Specialized knowledge in power system protection, medium/high voltage substation design, hazardous area classifications.
  • Knowledge of functional safety standards (IEC 61508, IEC 61511).
