Qualifications

  • Upstream oil and gas industry knowledge (API RP)
  • Experience modeling and analyzing electrical power systems
  • Experience with I&E design drawings and PLC communications
  • Project management experience

Job Summary

The Electrical Engineer is responsible for the electrical engineering needs of the company as we explore and produce our land-based oil and gas assets. These engineering needs include, but are not limited to, basic electrical information, industry standards, specifications, site electrification & design review, utility coordination & billing analysis, bonding & grounding, lightning & static mitigation, electrical area classification, and electrical safety. This individual will work closely with the production and facility engineers and I&E personnel to provide well-engineered solutions to our electrical power requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provide support for development and updating technical standards and best electrical engineering practices both inside and outside of the company.
  • Prepare electrical specifications for the purchase of materials and services.
  • Coordinate and manage the required electrical design and installation of facility and power systems as well as instrumentation and control systems prevalent in the oil and gas industry.
  • Work with power delivery partners to evaluate the most cost-effective energy choices.
  • Interpret and disseminate electrical code requirements for Operations.
  • Analyze power data to determine optimal operating efficiencies.
  • Develop practices and processes that can efficiently support the growing electrical needs for the entire company.
  • Perform or coordinate electrical power-system studies, including load flow, short circuit, protective coordination, arc flash, voltage drop, motor starting, harmonics, and power-factor analysis, using SKM, ETAP, or comparable tools.
  • Interface with the Business Units at all levels.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering from an accredited college or university.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in an Electrical Engineering role.
  • Fundamentals of Engineering (FE exam) passed, current EIT certification leading to Professional Engineering (P.E.) licensure.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
  • Electrical power infrastructure knowledge and understanding.
  • Knowledgeable in NFPA 70E, NEC and other electrical codes/standards and requirements such as IEEE, IES, NESC, and RUS.
  • Knowledgeable in technical codes/standards and engineering best practices of the upstream oil and gas industry, including API RPs.
  • Experience with modeling and performing analysis of electrical power systems.
  • Experience with I&E design drawings, component specifications, programmable control logic and device communication protocols.
  • Project management experience.
  • An acceptable pre-employment background screen and drug test.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience in the upstream oil and gas industry.
  • Experience in well site automation, measurement, and controls.
  • Experience with CAD and Peloton products.
  • Experience with power design tools such as SKM, ETAP, WindMil and PLS-CADD.
  • Experience with power system load flow, short circuit, coordination and arc flash analysis.
  • Experience with overcurrent protection devices such as SEL relays with system reclosers.
  • Experience with programmable logic controllers such as Rockwell Studio 5000.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Requires prolonged sitting, some bending and stooping.
  • Occasional lifting, up to 25 pounds.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to operate a computer keyboard and calculator.
