Responsibilities

Electrical Engineer – Norfolk, Virginia (On‑site)

Our client provides engineering, technical, and integrated support services to the U.S. Navy and the defense industry. We partner with government and commercial customers to deliver innovative engineering solutions that improve fleet readiness, modernization, and lifecycle sustainment. Our product lines encompass environmental sensors, aircraft visual landing aids, corrosion protection systems, and ruggedized enclosures for the naval market.

Seeking a motivated Electrical Engineer to support the development of technical documentation, installation procedures, and engineering solutions for naval electrical systems and equipment.

Position Summary

The Electrical Engineer will support engineering projects involving electrical cabinets, control systems, electronic assemblies, cabling, and equipment modernization. The successful candidate will develop electrical and electronic designs, create technical procedures, support testing and production activities, and produce engineering documentation for equipment installation, maintenance, and lifecycle sustainment. This position requires strong analytical skills, excellent technical writing ability, and the capability to translate engineering concepts into practical manufacturing and maintenance instructions.

Responsibilities
  • Design electrical and electronic assemblies for military and industrial applications.
  • Develop schematics, wiring diagrams, and supporting engineering documentation.
  • Support prototype development, integration, verification, and production of electronic assemblies.
  • Develop and execute functional, environmental, and acceptance test procedures for electrical and electronic systems.
  • Troubleshoot electrical and electronic assemblies during development, production, installation, and field support.
  • Develop engineering documentation supporting electrical equipment installation, maintenance, and refurbishment.
  • Create technical procedures and work instructions for electrical cabinet disassembly and reassembly.

Required Experience

Electrical Cabinet and Cable Documentation

  • Define processes and procedures for cabinet wiring and cabling during equipment disassembly and reassembly.
  • Develop detailed technical instructions covering:
    • Electrical disconnection and cable removal.
    • Connector inspection and condition verification.
    • Cable routing, reconnection, and securing during reassembly.
  • Identify engineering considerations that may affect removal and installation activities, including equipment modifications, configuration changes, obsolescence issues, or accessibility constraints.
  • Prepare clear, accurate engineering procedures and work instructions in collaboration with engineering teams and subject matter experts.
  • Interpret electrical drawings, wiring diagrams, cable schedules, and connector documentation.
  • Develop inspection checklists and acceptance criteria for electrical installations.
  • Support validation of maintenance procedures through engineering reviews or field observations.

Electronic Design and Production

  • Design, develop, and document electronic assemblies, including printed circuit board (PCB) assemblies, wiring harnesses, and electromechanical assemblies.
  • Develop electrical schematics, interface documentation, and bills of materials.
  • Support prototype fabrication, integration, testing, and transition to production.
  • Develop functional and acceptance test procedures for electronic assemblies.
  • Perform troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Work closely with manufacturing personnel to resolve production issues and improve product quality and reliability.
  • Support engineering changes, configuration management, and continuous product improvement initiatives.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of electrical engineering experience (additional experience may substitute for education where appropriate).
  • Experience with electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience supporting U.S. Navy, NAVSEA, MSC, or Department of Defense programs.
  • Experience developing technical manuals, maintenance procedures, or work instructions.
  • Experience designing, testing, and producing electronic assemblies for defense, industrial, or commercial applications.
  • Familiarity with PCB design, electronic assembly manufacturing, cable harness fabrication, and electronic test equipment.
  • Experience with control cabinets, industrial electrical systems, or shipboard electrical equipment.
  • Knowledge of IPC standards (IPC‑A‑610, IPC/WHMA‑A‑620, IPC J‑STD‑001) is desirable.
  • Experience with configuration management, engineering change processes, and product lifecycle support.
  • Familiarity with military standards and technical publications.
  • Active DoD Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain one.
Travel
  • Initial product line training at the company’s European headquarters for 4–6 weeks shortly after onboarding.
  • Ongoing travel (up to 20%) to Europe, customer sites, shipyards, or naval facilities may be required.
