Job description

Electrical Engineer — Hydro Power Generation (Multiple Levels, III-V)

This role may also be known as: Power Production Electrical Engineer, Controls & Protection Engineer, Hydro Generation Engineer, Substation & Switchyard Engineer

This is the kind of role where the work you do actually keeps the lights on for an entire region. You'll be embedded in an Electrical Engineering team responsible for the equipment that runs two hydro power generation facilities and their supporting 230kV switchyard - everything from generator protection to PLC-driven control systems to substation distribution equipment.

Whether you're a few years into your career or a seasoned subject matter expert, there's a level here for you. The organization is hiring across a full band of experience, from Engineer III through Engineer V, and is looking to bring on more than one person given the scope of upcoming work.

Why This Opportunity Is Different

Most electrical engineering roles keep you behind a desk. This one puts you in front of generators, exciters, governors, and switchyard equipment that actually matters to grid reliability. You'll have direct access to senior engineers and operations leadership, exposure to both new equipment design and legacy system troubleshooting, and a genuine path to grow from hands-on project support into subject-matter-expert status. For engineers who want technical depth over management tracks, this is a strong long-term fit.

What You'll Be Doing
  • Designing, upgrading, and implementing electrical systems across hydro generation facilities and the supporting switchyard
  • Working hands-on with generators, exciters, governors, transformers, PLCs, VFDs, and protective relay systems
  • Supporting project management for electrical projects, including budgets, scheduling, and commissioning
  • Advising electricians, operators, and other engineers on troubleshooting and equipment design
  • Reviewing, revising, and generating technical drawings and specifications
  • Supporting compliance work tied to FERC, NERC, and CIP standards
What We're Looking For
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Engineering Technology
  • Experience in a utility or industrial environment (level of experience determines placement from Engineer III through V)
  • Familiarity with PLCs, VFDs, SCADA, protective relays, or industrial control systems
  • Comfort with technical writing, drawing review, and cross-team troubleshooting support
  • A valid state driver's license with no restrictions
  • Washington State EIT or Professional Engineer license a plus; Master's degree a plus for senior levels
Compensation & Work Model

Engineer III: $104,822-$177,107 | Engineer IV: $112,585-$192,317 | Engineer V: $130,666-$228,062. Eligible for a partial hybrid work arrangement, with typical shifts of 8, 9, or 10 hours.

Location & Travel

Based in central Washington, with some field work at hydro generation facilities. Relocation candidates are welcomed and encouraged to apply.
