Job description

Senior Electrical Engineer - Education, Mission Critical, Healthcare & Life Sciences
Employment Type:

Full-Time

Work Arrangement:

Hybrid (3 days on-site, 2 days remote)

The Opportunity

A well-established MEP engineering firm serving the Greater Boston area is looking to add a Senior Electrical Engineer to its growing team. This role offers ownership of high-complexity electrical design work spanning mission critical (data center), healthcare, and life sciences sectors, alongside the chance to mentor junior staff and take a lead role in client-facing project delivery.

The Role

You’ll lead electrical design on mission critical, healthcare, and life sciences projects from initial concept through construction administration - covering power distribution, emergency and standby power, lighting design, and low-voltage systems. Close coordination with mechanical, plumbing, fire protection, and structural disciplines will be central to delivering integrated MEP solutions, and "You'll" take the lead on client relationships, presenting design recommendations directly to owners, architects, and contractors. The role also includes reviewing and stamping construction documents, specifications, and calculations, as well as mentoring junior and mid-level engineers on technical standards and best practice. Staying current with codes governing critical facilities, healthcare, and life sciences spaces - including NFPA 99, NFPA 70 (NEC), NFPA 110, and Massachusetts state amendments - is expected.

What You'll Bring
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline
  • At least 7 years of electrical engineering experience within an MEP or building systems consulting setting
  • Hands-on project experience in mission critical (data center), healthcare, and/or life sciences facility design
  • Massachusetts PE license, or eligibility to obtain one via reciprocity
  • Solid grasp of power distribution, emergency/standby power, UPS and generator sizing, and the redundancy/resiliency standards typical of critical facilities
  • Understanding of cleanroom, lab, and process electrical requirements specific to life sciences work
  • Proficiency in Revit, AutoCAD, and electrical analysis tools such as SKM or ETAP
  • Working knowledge of relevant codes: NEC/NFPA 70, NFPA 99, NFPA 110, IEEE, and Massachusetts building/electrical code
  • Strong communication skills and comfort presenting to clients and cross-disciplinary teams
  • Located in, or willing to work on-site in, the Boston area
Preferred Qualifications
  • LEED accreditation
  • Background in commissioning, arc flash studies, or building automation/controls integration
  • Experience leading junior engineers or serving as a project lead
What's on Offer
  • Competitive base salary based on experience
  • A defined path toward Principal/Associate level for strong performers
  • Involvement in high-visibility mission critical, healthcare, and life sciences projects across the Boston market
  • A collaborative, senior team environment with genuine technical mentorship
