Job summary

Heaviside Industries in Los Angeles designs mission-grade PCBAs and precision munitions hardware; you will own schematic capture, component selection and DFM-aware layouts for high-density mixed-signal boards.

You will drive power architecture and EMI/EMC strategies, bring boards up with firmware, run environmental testing, and collaborate with mechanical teams to ensure reliability in harsh, GPS-denied environments.

Qualifications

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering or related field.
• 5+ years of PCBAs designed and shipped for mission-critical hardware.
• Experience with Altium, Cadence Allegro or KiCad; strong analog/digital/high-speed fundamentals.

ABOUT HEAVISIDE INDUSTRIES

Heaviside Industries builds multi-domain autonomous precision munitions for U.S. and allied special operations and conventional forces. While modern warfare has rapidly evolved with the proliferation of unmanned systems, hyper-precise munitions in contested environments are the future of the battlefield. Economical precision strike capabilities are critical to U.S. and allied war efforts, enabling successful defeat of enemy military assets and infrastructure. Heaviside builds precision munitions designed to operate in GPS-denied and spectrum-jammed battlefields where traditional systems degrade or fail without inflated prices or sacrifice to performance.

All engineering and manufacturing is conducted in-house in Heaviside’s Los Angeles, CA headquarters and Oslo, Norway office.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Design, lay out and bring up mission-grade PCBAs - Navigation computers, sensor boards, power systems, RF front-end and seeker electronics
• Own schematic capture, component selection and DFM-aware PCB layout for high-density mixed-signal designs in tight mechanical envelopes
• Drive power architecture: battery and ordnance-grade power, DC-DC conversion and thermal management
• Design for signal integrity and EMI/EMC compliance from day one; partner with mechanical to get grounding, shielding and connector strategies right
• Specify, integrate, and bring up sensors and modules - IMUs, GNSS, baro, mag, RF transceivers and motor drivers
• Lead board bring-up side-by-side with firmware and embedded software
• Run qualification and environmental testing: thermal, vibration, shock, EMI/EMC, HALT
• Own component obsolescence, second-source strategy and the relationship between the BOM and our manufacturing line

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• BS or MS in Electrical Engineering, Electrical and Computer Engineering or related field
• 5+ years designing PCBAs that shipped - flight, automotive, robotics or comparable mission-critical hardware
• Expert with a modern EDA tool (Altium, Cadence Allegro, KiCad or equivalent)
• Strong fundamentals in analog, digital, power and high-speed design
• Hands-on experience with board bring-up tools - oscilloscope, logic analyzer, network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, thermal camera
• Comfortable reading firmware and partnering with FW/embedded engineers to debug across the boundary
• Bonus: RF design, high-speed digital (DDR, PCIe, MIPI), experience with MIL-STD-810, MIL-STD-461, DO-160 or comparable standards, experience with ordnance or pyrotechnic interfaces
• U.S. Person as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.62)

Compensation bands are determined by role, level, location, and alignment with market data. Individual level and base pay is determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on job-related skills, education, experience, technical capabilities and internal equity. In addition to base salary, for full-time hires, you may also be eligible for long-term incentives, in the form of stock options, and access to medical, vision & dental coverage as well as access to a 401(k) retirement plan.
