Job summary

Hydro-Gear, based in Indianapolis, IN, seeks a detail-oriented Electrical Engineer experienced in embedded systems, circuit design and validation. You will research, design, develop and test electrical components and systems, including PCBs and motor control, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure robust product delivery.

Responsibilities include DFMEA, design verification, and leading tests for new and existing products. On-site work required; visa sponsorship is not offered.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or computer science from a 4-year college or university.
• 2+ years in embedded electronics design, development, debugging and validation.
• Experience in power electronics, sensing systems, motor control (BDC/BLDC) or CAN.
• Signal conditioning, power supply design, motor control and system integration experience.
• Proficiency with Altium or equivalent CAD tools and version control.
• Nice-to-have: functional safety experience in electrical design.

Responsibilities

• Research, design, develop and maintain new products and components (PCB, motors, software).
• Analyze requirements and performance of products; DFMEA for electric components.
• Communicate technical details with internal and external teams.
• Identify potential new product developments and processes.
• Design, develop and lead tests to qualify new products and changes to existing ones.
• Use CAD to develop concepts and designs; procure prototype components.
• Assemble and evaluate prototype and pre-production hardware; review supplier non-conformances.
• Support cost avoidance and reduction activities; process sample requests.
• Provide technical information for monthly Engineering Report.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities of an Electrical Engineer:

• Research, design, develop and maintain new products and components, including, but not limited to:
• Printed circuit boards (PCB)
• Motors, AC, DC (brushed and brushless)
• Software programming

• Analyze the requirements, capabilities and performance of new and existing products
• Create and maintain Design Failure Mode and Effect Analysis (DFMEA) for electric components and products
• Communicate orally and in writing with personnel at all levels, both internal and external, regarding the technical details of new and existing products
• Research potential new product developments and new processes
• Design, develop, and lead tests to qualify new products and to support changes to existing products
• Participate in the activities of a product development team, or the electrical portion of a larger development team
• Use CAD programs to develop concepts and designs
• Procure components and services for development of prototype hardware
• Assemble and evaluate the performance of prototype and pre-production hardware
• Review and act on supplier non-conformances
• Be instrumental in cost avoidance and cost reduction activities throughout development and production
• Process customer and in-house engineering sample requests
• Provide the Product Engineering Manager or Director of Product Development with the technical information for the monthly Engineering Report

Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (B.S.E.E) or Computer Science (B.S.C.S) or equivalent from a 4-year college or university
• 2+ years of experience architecting, designing, developing, troubleshooting, and validating embedded electronics systems.
• Design experience in power electronics, sensing systems, BDC and BLDC motor control systems, or Controller Area Network (CAN) systems
• Experience with Signal conditioning and sampling, power supply designs, motor control, and electrical system integration.
• Experience using Altium or equivalent design software and version control processes.
• Preferred experience with functional safety standards related to electrical design.
