Job summary

Carlisle Construction Materials is seeking an Electrical Engineer in Greenville, IL. The role focuses on designing, modifying and commissioning equipment, with responsibilities spanning from initial concept through startup and optimization.

You will troubleshoot PLCs, VFDs and HMIs, ensure compliance with NFPA/OSHA/NEC safety guidelines, and collaborate with maintenance and engineering teams to improve productivity and safety.

Qualifications

  • Read schematics and electrical prints accurately.
  • Program and modify PLCs, VFDs, HMIs and related devices.
  • Adhere to NFPA/OSHA/NEC electrical safety guidelines.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SAP and AutoCAD.
  • Utilize software for VFDs, PLCs, Wonderware and HMIs.
  • Communicate clearly in writing, verbally and electronically.

Responsibilities

  • Design in-house equipment modifications and new installations to boost productivity.
  • Troubleshoot maintenance and production problems to reduce downtime.
  • Plan and supervise modifications with focus on safety, cost savings and productivity.
  • Prepare sketches, order parts, write reports and update project lists.
  • Create and update drawings using CAD.

Job Description

Primary Function

The Electrical Engineer will handle or supervise projects directed by the Manager of Engineering. Projects include estimating cost, designing layout and specifications, obtaining bids, and supervising installation and startup. Projects range from minor modifications to large equipment installations. The engineer also assists maintenance personnel with electrical troubleshooting related to PLCs, HMIs, and other devices while ensuring safety programs such as Lockout/Tagout and Arc Flash/Electrical Safety are followed.

Duties And Responsibilities
  • Engineering Activities (~70% of Time)
    • Design in‑house equipment modifications and new installations to increase productivity.
    • Troubleshoot maintenance and production problems to reduce downtime.
    • Plan, supervise, and communicate modifications to ensure safety, cost savings, and productivity.
    • Prepare sketches, order parts, write reports and update project lists.
    • Create new and update existing drawings using CAD.
  • Other Misc. Duties (~30% of Time)
    • Attend and contribute regularly to plant initiatives such as Safety, COS, and Cost Savings.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Read and understand schematics and electrical prints.
  • Program and modify PLCs, VFDs, HMIs, and other programmable equipment.
  • Understand and adhere to electrical safety guidelines based on NFPA, OSHA, NEC, etc.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, SAP, and AutoCAD.
  • Use software for VFDs, PLCs, Wonderware, and HMIs.
  • Communicate effectively in writing, orally, and electronically.
Education & Experience Requirements
  • Education:
    • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Computer Engineering.
    • Equivalency: Some college coursework with scheduled completion within six months of hire.
  • Experience:
    • Three or more years at a manufacturing facility working on electrical troubleshooting, PLC programming, VFD programming, HMIs, and communication protocols.
Work Environment / Time Worked
  • Work Environment:
    • 70% of time in a climate‑controlled office; 30% in a plant environment.
    • Occasional meetings and off‑hour work for critical incidents.
  • Time Worked:
    • Core Hours 8:00 AM – 4:30 PM, 40 Hours/Week, Monday‑Friday.
    • Additional hours may be required; occasional off‑hour phone calls are expected.
Physical Requirements

Requires sitting, standing, climbing stairs, catwalks, ladders, stooping, bending, and lifting. Good sight and hearing are required.

Supervisory Responsibilities

No direct reports. May supervise maintenance or production operators when required.

Salary

$75,000 – $125,000, depending on education and experience.
