Job summary

Lippert Components is seeking an Electrical Engineer to design and develop electrical systems for HVAC applications in transit vehicles. You will create schematics, BOMs, and documentation, and support prototypes, testing, and manufacturing integration.

Summary/Objective

The Engineer will apply engineering principles and processes to design innovative, quality components for the customers we serve.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop electrical systems, controls, wiring harnesses, and electromechanical components from concept through production.
  2. Create and maintain electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, BOMs, and engineering documentation.
  3. Lead or support product development activities including prototyping, testing, validation, and design iteration.
  4. Design and integrate low-voltage (12V/24V) and high-voltage electrical systems and components for HVAC applications.
  5. Support software and controls integration.
  6. Predict and evaluate system performance using sound engineering principles, and plan and support test methods and procedures.
  7. Support manufacturing through Design for Manufacturability (DFM), production support, audits, and troubleshooting.
  8. Investigate and resolve issues related to quality, scrap, warranty, reliability, and product cost.
  9. Generate and maintain engineering documentation including schematics, BOMs, specifications, test reports, and engineering change requests.
  10. Communicate design intent clearly and provide technical guidance to designers and cross-functional teams.
  11. Apply Stage-Gate development processes, engineering tools, and applicable industry standards.
Other Key Responsibilities
  1. Strong electrical design experience with the ability to engineer systems and components with minimal supervision.
  2. High proficiency creating electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and electrical documentation.
  3. Experience designing low-voltage (12V/24V) and high-voltage electrical systems.
  4. Working knowledge of HVAC controls, motors, sensors, controllers, wiring harnesses, and communication protocols.
  5. Familiarity with high-voltage components including electric compressors, DC-DC converters, contactors, and power distribution systems.
  6. Working knowledge of DFMEA, PFMEA, DFM, PPAP, and manufacturing processes.
  7. Ability to lead assigned projects, prioritize work, and drive tasks to completion with minimal supervision.
  8. Ability to generate organized engineering documentation and properly maintain project records.
  9. Ability to collaborate effectively in cross-functional and manufacturing environments.
Working Conditions
  1. Primarily working indoors, office environment.
  2. May sit for several hours at a time.
  3. Prolonged exposure to computer screens.
  4. Repetitive use of hands to operate computers, printers, and copiers.
  5. Travel to customer or other Lippert facilities may be required
  6. Floor time at customers or other Lippert facilities may be required which may include walking, kneeling, crouching, sitting, standing
Qualifications
  1. Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or a related technical field.
  2. 4-6 years of relevant engineering experience.
  3. Experience in the design and manufacture of HVAC, air conditioning, or refrigeration systems.
  4. Experience with low-voltage and high-voltage vehicle electrical systems.
  5. PCB design and circuit routing experience.
  6. Exposure to industry standards such as SAE, UL, FMVSS, IMACA, and CAN/J1939 communication systems.

Supervisory Responsibility

This role applies a strong foundation in electrical engineering and HVAC controls to the design, development, and support of electrical systems for air conditioning systems used in buses and transit vehicles. The engineer works with minimal supervision on increasingly complex products and systems, supporting both new product development and existing production through continuous improvement and VAVE activities.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work

This is a full-time position, and the expected work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday; weekend and overnight work could also become necessary.

Travel

Travel will be minimal and would be primarily local during the business day.
