Job summary

STI in Rochester, NY seeks an Electrical Engineer for long-term engagement to lead PCB/PCBA design using Altium, develop schematics, and create 3D component drawings. You will collaborate across engineering teams, evaluate packaging, cost, and performance, and ensure manufacturability and design-for-test principles.

Strong knowledge of PCB design best practices and IPC standards is required, with experience in RF circuits a plus.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent.
• Experience with Altium software for PCB/PCBA design.
• Create and modify schematics as directed by engineers.
• Generate library symbols, footprints, and 3D drawings for components.
• Investigate and implement PCB design trends and processes.
• Conduct feasibility studies for packaging, cost, and system performance.
• Perform complex CAD and CAE tasks, ensuring compliance with design standards.
• Propose design trade-offs for resolution and implementation.
• Communicate with fabrication vendors and address engineering questions.
• Prioritize quality design and observe design for test and manufacturability principles.
• Understand impedance control requirements for electrical and RF circuits.
• Stay updated on PCB technology trends and apply them to our designs.
• Collaborate with various teams during the design and fabrication process.
• Resolve PCB design issues with vendors.
• Contribute to PCB design specifications and standards for product quality and cost-efficiency.
• Be creative and innovative. Demonstrate a willingness to explore new options to bridge program challenges or improve processes.
• A nature of staying focused on solutions and ability to remain positive even under pressure.
• Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with others, foster teamwork and bridge differences to achieve the program goals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Proficiency in Altium, or Mentor PCB Design software.
• Familiarity with Mechanical CAD tools (e.g., Siemens NX) is a plus.
• Strong knowledge of PCB design best practices and standards (e.g., IPC-A-610).
• Effective verbal and written communication skills.
• Experience in RF Circuit PCB design is preferred.
