Job summary

Siemens Smart Infrastructure's Electrification and Automation division offers a Spring 2027 internship in Protection & Automation Engineering, based in Wendell, NC. You will rotate through teams to learn the full project lifecycle, supporting engineering, proposal development, and post-delivery activities.

Current students pursuing Electrical, Computer, or Power Systems Engineering may graduate between May 2027 and December 2027 and work part-time during Spring 2027, with a potential transition

Qualifications

  • Current student pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or a related field.
  • Must graduate between May 2027 and December 2027.
  • Available to work part-time during the spring 2027 semester.
  • Graduating after spring 2027 will have the option to transition to a full‑time internship during summer 2027.

Responsibilities

  • Rotate through Protection & Automation teams, including Solutions Engineering, Solutions Offers, and GCC, to gain exposure to the full project lifecycle while supporting engineering, proposal development, and post-delivery activities.
  • Assist with configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of protection relays, RTUs, and HMIs.
  • Support engineering design processes by working with AC/DC schematics, wiring diagrams, logic diagrams, signal lists, and communication network diagrams.
  • Use digital twin technology to simulate and test protection relay signals in a virtual environment.
  • Contribute to projects involving microgrids and renewable technologies, including photovoltaic and battery storage systems.
  • Support the development of customer proposals by translating technical scope into engineering effort, cost, and deliverables.
  • Assist with post-delivery project support, including warranty, issue resolution, and customer case coordination.
  • Gain hands-on experience with testing automation panels, FATs, and working in the Power & Automation laboratory.
  • Build familiarity with Siemens electrical equipment including switchgear, MCCs, breakers, transformers, and related systems.

Education

Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Power Systems Engineering, or related field
