JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

We are seeking a motivated and talented electrical or electronics engineer to join the Electronics Systems Department at the Applied Research Laboratory (ARL) at Penn State University. ARL focuses on researching and developing innovative solutions for challenging scientific, engineering, and technological problems supporting the Navy, the Department of Defense (DoD), and the Intel Community (IC). You will develop custom hardware and autonomous software/firmware across platforms from small embedded systems to complex networked systems. Responsibilities:

• Design custom circuit boards and power electronics supporting system functions
• Develop software/firmware tightly integrated with hardware in embedded systems
• Debug and test hardware, software, and firmware using unit, integration, and hardware-in-the-loop tests
• Document designs and write specifications
• Present and demonstrate work to peers, management, sponsors, and stakeholders
• Collaborate with team members and support team activities

Additional Responsibilities for Higher Levels:

• Manage small to moderate electrical/electronic engineering projects
• Mentor and train team members in technical, project, and business skills
• Contribute to proposals, reports, and presentations

This position can be filled at an intermediate or advanced level based on education and experience. Minimum requirements include a Bachelor's Degree in Engineering or Science, with a Master's preferred; 2+ years of related experience for the intermediate level. Higher levels require additional experience or education.

Required Skills/Experience:

• Proficiency in system design, documentation, prototype construction, and testing
• Knowledge of C/C++
• Experience with MATLAB, LabVIEW, VHDL, or Verilog
• Effective communication skills in a collaborative environment

Preferred Skills/Experience:

• Experience with Xilinx Vivado Development tools and System on Module
• Object-Oriented Design
• Active government security clearance

The work location is initially on-site in State College, PA, with potential for hybrid work. Occasional travel may be required for testing and meetings.
