Job summary

KLH Engineers, Inc. in Pittsburgh is seeking an Electrical Designer to join our growing team. You will produce construction-ready electrical design documents and help develop complex electrical systems for water and wastewater projects.

You will work under senior engineers, collaborating with civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation teams, while applying NEC, NFPA, IEEE, and local codes. A strong eye for detail and effective communication are essential as you contribute to high-impact

Qualifications

• Associate degree in Electrical Design, Drafting or Engineering Technology.
• 5+ years of electrical design experience, ideally including water or wastewater plants.
• Knowledge of power distribution, lighting design, standby power systems and VFDs.
• Experience with SCADA systems, motor control centers and process instrumentation.
• AutoCAD proficiency; knowledge of other design tools is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail; drawings should be clean and accurate.
• Commitment to CAD standards and professional output.
• Good communicator and team player.
• Proficient with Word, Excel, and Outlook.
• Willing to visit sites and work on-site.

Responsibilities

• Develop detailed electrical design drawings (single-line diagrams, layouts, schedules, lighting plans).
• Use AutoCAD to prepare construction documents.
• Collaborate with civil, structural, mechanical, and instrumentation teams.
• Apply NEC, NFPA, IEEE and local codes in design work.
• Incorporate control panel layouts, MCCs and PLC I/O wiring.
• Assist in SCADA/instrumentation layouts with control systems engineers.
• Support bidding and construction phases by handling RFIs, submittals, and markups.
