Job summary

American Electric Power in Roanoke, VA is seeking an intern Student Engineer to support CAD drafting tasks and 3D/2D drawings in a hands-on, onsite environment. You will gain experience with Autodesk products and Office in a structured internship that develops fundamental engineering documentation skills.

Responsibilities include creating and revising drawings, reading vendor prints, performing calculations, and adhering to AEP policies.

Qualifications

• At least one year toward AAS in drafting/CAD or related field
• 18 years or older; graduation date Dec 2027 or later
• GPA 3.0 or higher
• Must distinguish colors and be familiar with drafting symbols

Responsibilities

• Create, revise and maintain engineering drawings and sketches.
• Maintain facilities and equipment documents including construction, equipment and property records.
• Obtain information from verbal communication, sketches, listings, field notes and vendor catalogs; refer to site visits.
• Perform mathematical calculations required to accomplish work.
• Proficient in CAD software (Autodesk: AutoCAD Electrical, Civil3D, Inventor, Vault).
• Proficient in Microsoft Office software.
• Read vendor prints and equipment instructions and incorporate into work.
• Demonstrate ethical behavior per AEP policies.
• Assume other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
