Position: Electrical Designer II (Mission Critical / Data Centre)
- Position: Full-Time | Mid-Level
- Location: Virginia Area (Regional / Field Opportunities)
- Compensation: Circa $47hr + ESOP & Discretionary Bonus
Opportunity Overview
Our client, a leading nationwide electrical engineering and specialty contracting firm is seeking an Electrical Designer II specializing in Revit 3D BIM modelling and power distribution design for major mission-critical and data centre developments.
This role is tailored for a technical designer who has progressed beyond simple model drafting into active design ownership, including circuiting, panel schedules, feeder sizing, and spatial clash resolution. An associate degree or strong practical experience in high-density facilities (including transferable experience from Oil & Gas or Aerospace) is fully welcomed.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop fully coordinated 3D power, lighting, and grounding layouts within Autodesk Revit for complex data centre facilities.
- Perform branch circuiting, populate panel schedules, draft equipment connection details, and perform basic feeder sizing.
- Translate lead engineering intent into clear, accurate, and constructible 2D drawing packages and 3D BIM models.
- Conduct basic voltage drop and circuit load calculations to support overall electrical distribution designs.
- Participate actively in cross-discipline BIM coordination (MEP/FP, Architectural, Structural, Civil) to identify and resolve model clashes.
- Verify required electrical equipment clearances in transformer yards, switchgear rooms, UPS rooms, and white space layouts.
- Utilize Navisworks and Revit coordination tools to address site interference conditions before construction release.
Project Execution & Support
- Work closely with senior electrical engineers and project managers to ensure designs conform to client specifications and national electrical codes.
- Review vendor equipment submittals, shop drawings, and field data for alignment with design intent.
- Support site surveys, existing condition verification, and design modifications during construction phases.
Candidate Profile
- Education: Associate Degree in CAD/BIM Drafting, Electrical Technology, or equivalent hands-on technical project experience. (A four-year degree is not required for candidates with solid practical design depth).
- Experience: Minimum 2 years of hands-on electrical Revit design experience in data centers or high-complexity industrial facilities (e.g., Oil & Gas, Aerospace, Heavy Industrial).
- Software Depth: High proficiency in Autodesk Revit for electrical distribution; working knowledge of Navisworks for clash detection.
- Technical Understanding: Strong grasp of single-line diagrams, branch circuiting, electrical room clearances, and spatial coordination.
What The Client Offers
- Compensation: Competitive pay rate commensurate with technical depth and project experience.
- Equity & Retirement: Eligibility to participate in a company-funded Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP) under plan rules, plus 401(k) options.
- Incentives: Discretionary annual performance and project profitability bonuses.
- Benefits: Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance packages, along with competitive PTO and paid holiday allowances.
