Job summary

Ingalls Shipbuilding is seeking an engineer to design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to support manufacturing operations. You will use CAD/CAM/CATIA tools, gather data, perform calculations, and present design proposals. Travel to naval bases for pier-side checks is required.

A basic understanding of ship design practices and blueprint reading is expected. Experience in electrical design and working with government/vendor data is beneficial.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED and 7 years of experience.
  • Associates Degree or other 2 year technical degree in related discipline and 3 years experience.
  • Nice-to-have: familiarity with US Navy Power Interior Communication, and Control Systems; understanding in ship design (CG, LPD, LHA/LHD & LCS) and electrical design; proficiency in AutoCAD, Excel and Word.

Responsibilities

  • Designs components or portions of systems and modifies existing designs to develop or improve products and manufacturing operations.
  • Gathers information, makes studies, computes calculations, and prepares rough layouts and sketches to present design proposals.
  • Coordinates design criteria with engineering, manufacturing, tooling, material, and planning groups such as ease of manufacture, material availability, and contractual specifications.
  • Travel to numerous Naval Bases will be required to support pier side shipchecking and surveys.
