Job summary

Specialist Staffing Group seeks an Electrical and Instrumentation Nuclear Design Engineer to support a major power uprate at Vogtle Electric Generating Plant. The role focuses on electrical systems, instrumentation and control components with field-ready design delivery.

The ideal candidate has a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, 5+ years in nuclear design or regulated environments, and experience with ETAP, ANSYS, and STAAD. On-site five days a week through mid-2028.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • 5+ years of nuclear plant design or highly regulated design experience.
  • Familiarity with post-2018 nuclear design process.
  • Strong analytical skills and experience with engineering analysis tools.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work across teams.
  • Eligible for unescorted access to a nuclear facility.
  • Preferred: PE license or advanced certifications.

Electrical and Instrumentation Nuclear Design Engineer

Vogtle Electric Generating Plant

Position Summary

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Electrical and Instrumentation (E&I) Nuclear Design Engineer to support a major power uprate initiative at the Vogtle Electric Generating Plant. This role will be instrumental in executing critical design changes to increase electrical output, with a focus on electrical systems, instrumentation, and control components.

The ideal candidate will bring strong nuclear design experience, a collaborative mindset, and the ability to translate technical requirements into practical, field-ready solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and support design efforts for plant modifications related to power uprate, including but not limited to:

  • Moisture Separator Reheaters
  • Heater Drain Tank Pump Motors
  • Setpoint and instrumentation changes

Perform and verify engineering analyses and calculations (electrical and mechanical).

Serve as a frontline design checker for internal and external design deliverables.

Interface with design providers (equipment vendors, architect-engineering firms) and plant personnel to gather input and ensure alignment.

Utilize tools such as ETAP (electrical), ANSYS (mechanical), and STAAD or Stroodle (civil).

Support procurement efforts by completing early-stage evaluations to enable timely purchase orders.

Collaborate closely with Project Managers, Implementation Engineers, and Design Engineers across disciplines.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.

Minimum 5 years of experience in nuclear plant design or a highly regulated design environment.

Familiarity with the nuclear industry's standardized design process (post-2018 implementation).

Strong analytical skills and experience with engineering analysis tools.

Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work across teams and disciplines.

Demonstrated initiative and resourcefulness in solving complex design challenges.

Must be eligible for unescorted access to a nuclear facility.

Preferred Qualifications

Prior experience supporting power uprate projects.

Familiarity with both electrical and instrumentation/control systems.

Professional Engineer (PE) license or advanced certifications.

Work Environment & On-Site Expectations

Ongoing: 5 days/week on-site.

Note: Remote-only candidates will not be considered. On-site presence is essential for collaboration and field support.

Contract Duration

Primary Phase: Through mid-2028.

Extension Potential: Top performers may be retained through 2029, with potential for continued support into 2030.
