Qualifications

Responsibilities

  • Lead design and integration of SC1/SC3 electrical systems (MV/LV).
  • Perform electrical studies: load flow, short circuit, motor starting, relay coordination using ETAP.
  • Prepare deliverables: specs, load lists, one-lines, calculations, schematics, diagrams.
  • Develop procurement specs for transformers, switchgear, gensets, UPS.
  • Collaborate with suppliers.
  • Support nuclear licensing and regulatory compliance.
  • Interface with transmission providers for interconnection and grid stability.
  • Apply IEEE/IEC/CSA/NEC standards.
  • Support protection and control for generators and large transformers.

Job description

Project: Nuclear / BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor

The Electrical Design Engineer IV will be responsible for the design, analysis, procurement, and integration of electrical power systems supporting the BWRX-300 Small Modular Reactor. The role covers electrical systems ranging from the main generator and grid connection through in-plant distribution and end-use loads.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and integration of SC1/Class 1E, SC2, and SC3 electrical systems, including medium- and low-voltage distribution.
  • Perform electrical studies including load flow, short circuit, motor starting, and protective relay coordination using ETAP and applicable ANSI/IEC standards.
  • Prepare electrical engineering deliverables, including requirements specifications, electrical load lists, one-lines, calculations, schematics, and three-line diagrams.
  • Develop procurement specifications for major electrical equipment, including transformers, switchgear, diesel generators, and UPS systems.
  • Collaborate with equipment suppliers.
  • Support nuclear licensing and ensure designs comply with applicable nuclear regulatory requirements.
  • Interface with transmission providers regarding Generator Interconnection Agreements and grid stability requirements.
  • Apply applicable electrical codes and standards, including IEEE, IEC, CSA, and NEC.
  • Support protection and control activities, including generator and large power transformer protection.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering; Master's preferred.
  • U.S. PE professional engineering license.
  • 8+ years of experience in heavy or high-reliability industries such as nuclear, power, process, marine, oil & gas, or military.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, and Visio.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline.
  • Experience with AutoCAD or MicroStation.
  • Experience with electrical engineering and design tools such as ETAP, SKM, Hexagon Smart Electrical (SPEL), AutoCAD, MicroStation, Visio, and related engineering software.
  • Experience with requirements management, document management, configuration management, and BOM systems.
  • Strong Protection and Control experience.
  • Experience with grid interfaces.
  • Experience with generator and large power transformer protection.
  • Experience programming and setting GE Multilin and SEL relays.
Citizenship / Eligibility Requirement
  • Must be a U.S. Person, defined as a U.S. citizen or valid Green Card holder.
  • Candidates with dual or multiple citizenships must comply with applicable U.S. DOE 10 CFR Part 810, Appendix A requirements.
