Charlotte, NC

Hybrid Role (2 days per week on-site), 4x10 schedule

Compensation range: $50 - $55 per hour, in addition to benefits

Multi-year contract through 2029

ABOUT THE ROLE

Brooksource is seeking an experienced engineering contractor to independently collaborate with stakeholders and cross-functional teams in developing and implementing risk-informed tools and processes that enhance nuclear safety, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance. This role requires advanced system and/or design engineering expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to deliver high-quality work with minimal supervision and rework. The contractor will be responsible for solving complex engineering problems, applying fundamental concepts and procedures to varied and fairly complex work, and developing advanced skills to work with greater independence. The position is primarily office-based with periodic on-site work at nuclear generating stations as needed to support the scope, including meetings, plant support activities, badging, and site access requirements. A hybrid work arrangement may be available.

WHAT YOU'LL DO
  • Develop technical bases and supporting documentation for risk-informed nuclear safety programs, including 10 CFR 50.69 categorizations, Surveillance Test Risk-Informed Documented Evaluation (STRIDE), and Risk Informed Completion Times.
  • Research and provide reference documentation to third parties; conduct reviews of products with site resources.
  • Research and resolve system design and operational questions arising from project activities.
  • Provide engineering and technical expertise to identify, analyze, and resolve complex issues; assess impacts on a system and fleet-wide basis; communicate options and recommendations to stakeholders.
  • Plan and execute assigned work with appropriate estimating, scheduling, and status reporting; manage multiple workstreams where limited standardization exists and solutions require independent problem solving within area of expertise.
  • Prepare and maintain thorough and accurate technical reports, correspondence, calculations, analyses, and supporting documentation; recommend process and standards enhancements as appropriate.
  • Collaborate independently with stakeholders and cross-functional teams to enhance nuclear safety, operational decision-making, and regulatory compliance.
  • Support on-site activities at nuclear generating stations as needed, including meetings, plant support, badging, and site access requirements as directed
  • Leverage effective working relationships with engineering, operations, licensing, and other stakeholders, preferably as a past utility company employee.
WHAT YOU BRING
  • Minimum of 5 years of relevant plant or corporate nuclear experience
  • Experience in the utility industry, preferably at a site/station in Engineering or Operations.
  • Familiarity with fundamental BWR or PWR plant systems.
  • Proficient in researching engineering and design issues, evaluating alternatives, making sound recommendations, and preparing/presenting recommendations.
  • SRO certification, RO or SRO license, or Technical Nuclear certification (desired).
  • Advanced knowledge of probabilistic risk assessment methodologies and risk-informed applications (e.g., RI-ISI, 10 CFR 50.69, risk-informed technical specifications) and related regulatory requirements (desired).
  • Probabilistic Risk Assessment experience (desired).
  • Proficient in principles of project management; MBA and/or PMP designation viewed favorably (desired).
  • Ability to solve complex engineering problems with general supervision and work independently, applying advanced skills and sound judgment.
