Job summary

Bowmar LLC is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer I in Fort Wayne, IN to support the design, development, and documentation of commercial and military aerospace electronics. This entry‑level role focuses on learning Bowmar processes, contributing to new product development, and supporting sustaining engineering activities under senior guidance.

You will assist with electronic components, PCB assemblies, and electro‑mechanical systems, while gaining proficiency in design tools and aerospace

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering or related field, with 0–5 years of electronics design experience.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and PCB design fundamentals.
• Exposure to CAD/PCB tools such as Altium Designer or AutoCAD.

Responsibilities

• Assist in designing electronic components, PCB assemblies, and electro‑mechanical systems for aerospace applications.
• Support PCB layout activities under supervision using approved design tools.
• Review customer specifications and prepare basic engineering documentation.
• Perform preliminary engineering calculations, simple analyses, and component selection.
• Support testing and troubleshooting of electrical assemblies to verify performance and compliance.
• Develop work instructions, procedures, and engineering change documentation.
• Participate in design reviews and learn Lean Product Development methods.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts to enhance quality and reduce waste.
• Collaborate with mechanical, manufacturing, and quality teams to ensure manufacturability and compliance.

Salary Range: $82,000.00 To $91,000.00 Annually

The Electrical Design Engineer I supports the design, development, and documentation of Bowmar’s commercial and military aerospace electronic products. This entry‑level role focuses on learning Bowmar engineering processes, contributing to new product development tasks, and supporting sustaining engineering activities. The engineer works under the guidance of more experienced engineers while gaining proficiency in design tools, Lean Product Development concepts, and aerospace standards.

• Assist in the design and development of electronic components, PCB assemblies, and electro‑mechanical systems for aerospace applications.
• Support PCB layout activities under supervision using approved design tools.
• Review and interpret customer specifications and assist in preparing basic engineering documentation.
• Perform preliminary engineering calculations, simple analyses, and component selection.
• Support testing and troubleshooting of electrical assemblies to verify performance and compliance.
• Assist with the development of work instructions, procedures, and engineering change documentation.
• Participate in design reviews and learn Bowmar’s Lean Product Development methods.
• Contribute to continuous improvement efforts aimed at enhancing quality and reducing waste.

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related field, with 0–5 years of experience in electronics design (internships/co‑ops acceptable); or 5+ years of relevant experience in lieu of a degree.
• Basic understanding of electrical circuits and PCB design fundamentals.
• Exposure to CAD/PCB tools such as Altium Designer or AutoCAD (coursework acceptable).
• Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
• Solid written and verbal communication skills.

Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:

• Requires close, distance, color, and peripheral vision, along with depth perception and focus adjustment.
• Occasional lifting of up to 25 pounds.
• Work is performed in an air‑conditioned environment with consistently low noise levels.
