Job description

Job Title: Electrical Engineer

This Electrical Engineer role focuses on designing and implementing electrical control systems for automated material handling equipment. You will work on project-based applications that involve developing specifications, electrical device layouts, schematics, and control panel drawings, while collaborating closely with internal teams and clients to deliver reliable, efficient automation solutions.

Responsibilities
  • Meet with clients and internal project teams to define application requirements and produce functional specifications or descriptions of operation documents.
  • Use AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical to create electrical designs, including device layouts, schematics, control panel designs, and communication architecture diagrams.
  • Select components and prepare detailed bills of material for each project.
  • Coordinate the ordering of field components and control panels to support project timelines.
  • Design electrical interfaces to devices such as network I/O, variable speed drives, camera and laser scanner identification systems, and scales.
  • Customize standard products and solutions to meet the specific requirements of each project.
  • Work closely with Controls Engineers to integrate electrical designs into complete project solutions.
  • Perform on-site technical checkout, often collaborating with installation teams to verify proper system operation.
  • Conduct on-site system commissioning at client locations to validate and fine-tune the controls design.
  • Update all electrical drawings and documentation to 'as-built' status upon project completion.
Essential Skills
  • Associate degree in a relevant technical or engineering discipline.
  • At least 3 years of experience in the material handling industry.
  • Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical for electrical design work.
  • Strong knowledge of 480 VAC 3-phase power systems.
  • Ability to calculate system electrical loads and design control panels accordingly.
  • Knowledge of PLCs and their role in automated control systems.
  • Ability to design I/O architectures that effectively accommodate system requirements.
  • Working knowledge of UL508A, NFPA 70, and NFPA 79 standards.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
  • Experience designing electrical controls systems for automated material handling equipment.
  • Hands-on experience creating electrical schematics, device layouts, and panel drawings.
  • Familiarity with material handling environments and automated equipment integration.
  • Understanding of communication architectures for industrial control systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams, including controls engineers and installation teams.
  • Strong attention to detail when updating documentation to reflect as-built conditions.
Work Environment

This role offers the possibility of remote work depending on experience, combined with periodic travel to the home office and client sites. Travel requirements typically range from approximately 20% to 40%, primarily for on-site technical checkout and system commissioning. You will work with modern automated material handling equipment, electrical control panels, and industrial control technologies, using tools such as AutoCAD and AutoCAD Electrical in a project-driven environment within a growing, expanding material handling integrator.
