Job summary

Longenecker & Associates (L&A), a Geosyntec Company, is seeking an Electrical Design Engineer to support critical missions at Oak Ridge, TN. The role focuses on safe, reliable electrical power systems, equipment integration, upgrades, and troubleshooting for DOE-related projects.

Qualified candidates will have a bachelor’s in electrical engineering, 5+ years in electrical design, and experience with large EPC or nuclear projects. Federal security requirements apply; U.S.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is required.
  • At least 5 years in electrical design or equivalent.
  • Experience on large EPC and/or nuclear projects preferred.
  • Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, UL, CE electrical standards.

Responsibilities

  • Lead design, installation, and maintenance of facility electrical power systems.
  • Ensure safety compliance and documentation for electrical systems.
  • Collaborate with Facilities, Manufacturing, and Automation teams.
  • Perform root-cause analysis for electrical issues and downtime.
  • Maintain electrical schematics and wiring diagrams.
  • Manage external contractors and vendors as needed.
  • Drive power reliability, energy efficiency, and safety improvements.
  • Support capital projects from scope to commissioning.
  • Act as Electrical AHJ for the facility.

Essential Duties And Responsibilities

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced manager to lead a multidisciplinary team responsible for facility electrical power systems. This role ensures safe, reliable, and compliant electrical systems across the facility while supporting new equipment integration, upgrades, and troubleshooting.

Key Responsibilities
  • Oversee design, installation, and maintenance of facility electrical power systems (480V/240V distribution, switchgear, MCCs, UPS, generators);
  • Own electrical standards, safety compliance (NEC, NFPA 70E, UL, CE), and documentation;
  • Partner with Facilities, Manufacturing, and Automation teams on equipment installations and upgrades;
  • Lead root-cause analysis for electrical failures, downtime events, and equipment reliability issues;
  • Ensure electrical schematics, wiring diagrams are maintained and updated;
  • Manage external contractors, integrators, and vendors as required;
  • Drive continuous improvement in power reliability, energy efficiency, and electrical safety;
  • Provide capital project support including scope development, design review, and commissioning; and
  • Serve as Electrical Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ).
Education and Licensure
  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or related technical field. (required)
Skills, Experience And Qualifications
  • At least 5 years in Electrical Design; or equivalent combination of education and experience. (required)
  • Prior experience on large EPC project and/or nuclear project.
  • Working knowledge of control plans and voltage distribution systems.
  • Working knowledge of CAD tools and/or ETAP.
  • Knowledge of electrical standards and codes.
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, this position requires U.S. Citizenship. (required)
  • Due to federal contract security requirements, candidates must be able to successfully pass a federal background investigation to secure and maintain DOE Q security clearance. (preferred)
  • Health & Safety training, medical monitoring, and client-driven drug and background testing. (required)
