Job summary

DEHN Americas is seeking a Product Design Engineer with strong test engineering, CAD modeling, and BOM management skills to support electrical surge protection products. The role involves creating 3D models, drawings, and system layouts, and collaborating across engineering, manufacturing, and sales to ensure products meet customer needs.

The candidate will participate in sustaining engineering and new product development, with opportunities for international travel up to 10%.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• 5+ years of experience in product design engineering.
• Ability to read blueprints and create drawings.
• Willingness to travel up to 10% domestically and internationally.
• English and Spanish bilingual preferred.

Responsibilities

• Validate and perform validation/testing of electrical and surge protection products.
• Maintain BOMs and product configurator tools for accurate definitions and quotes.
• Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, and layouts supporting design and customer solutions.
• Support product selection, system design, and technical application requirements.

Position Duties

• Product Test Engineering - Conduct validation and performance testing of electrical and surge protection products to ensure compliance with design specifications and industry standards.
• BOM & Configurator Management - Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot Bills of Materials (BOMs) and product configurator tools to support accurate product definition, quoting, and manufacturing execution.
• Product Definition & CAD Support - Create and maintain 3D models, drawings, and system layouts supporting product design, application engineering, and customer-specific solutions.
• Application Engineering Support - Support product selection, system design, and technical application of lightning and surge protection solutions based on customer and project requirements.
• Research & Development (R&D) including Sustaining Engineering – continuous improvement, cost optimization, and lifecycle management of existing products, and New Product Development (NPD) – design, validation, and launch of new product solutions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration - Partner with engineering, manufacturing, and commercial teams to ensure product designs are manufacturable, scalable, and aligned with market requirements.

Position Requirements

• Ability to read blueprints, create drawings and templates
• Experience with SolidWorks SketchUp AutoCAD to create drawings of lightning protection, ground systems and product installation details
• Experience with measuring and drawing components and assemblies from existing samplesAbility to build models of structures and PV field earthing grids
• Ability to create drawings of lightning protection, ground systems and product installation details
• Have electrical systems knowledge of low voltage power distribution and grounding
• Have good communication skills, English and Spanish bilingual preferred
• Quick learner able to learn design methods and product lines, including XGSlabs Software Modeling of grounding field system
• Some travel in US and Germany for training and site review may be required, up to 10%.

Education Requirements

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
• 5+ years of experience with Product Design Engineering
• May occasionally require lifting, pulling, and carrying up to fifty (50) pounds
• Frequent sitting, occasional bending, climbing, pulling, pushing, and reaching overhead
