Job summary

Thorson Baker + Associates is seeking an Electrical Engineer to contribute to the schematic, design development, construction documents and construction administration for institutional and commercial buildings.

You will engineer power and lighting systems, perform calculations, and coordinate with architects, owners, and contractors. Travel nationally for site visits and meetings is expected as part of the role.

Qualifications

• Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering required.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Efficient in Word and Excel.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit.
• FE/EIT a plus.
• Capable of meeting with clients and contractors.
• Willing to work extra hours to meet deadlines.

Responsibilities

• Electrical engineering of power and lighting systems for institutional and commercial buildings.
• Prepare calculations and coordinated construction documents that are cost-effective and constructible.
• Coordinate with architects, owners, engineers, vendors and officials throughout design phases.
• Perform energy, load, photometrics and voltage drop calculations.
• Meet client schedules and internal design/construction time budgets.
• Administer construction phase tasks: review shop drawings, respond to RFIs, coordinate with contractors.
• Travel nationally for site visits and meetings; prepare detailed technical reports.

Description

Participate as a team member in the technical development of schematic, design development, construction documents, specifications, and construction administration for institutional and commercial building projects.

Duties Include:

• Electrical engineering of power and lighting systems for institutional, retail and commercial building projects.
• Prepare calculations and well-coordinated, technically sound construction documents that are cost effective, clear, efficient, and constructible in a friendly work environment.
• Communicate and coordinate with architects, owners, other engineering disciplines, vendors, building officials, other consultants, etc. throughout the design phases of the building project.
• Perform engineering calculations including energy, load, photometrics, voltage drop, etc.
• Must meet client schedules and internal design and construction administration time budgets.
• Office construction administration including review of shop drawings, respond to RFI’s, and coordinate with contractors, design team, building officials, owner, etc. through the construction phase of the building project.
• Able to travel nationally for pre-design site visits, design meetings, construction phase site observations, etc. and prepare detailed technical narrative reports.

Requirements

• Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering required.
• Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Efficient in Microsoft Word and Excel.
• Familiar with AutoCAD and Revit.
• FE/EIT a plus.
• Capable of attending and engaging in meetings with clients, owners, contractors, etc. in a positive and productive manner.
• Possess a good work ethic and be efficient in job duties.
• Willing to work extra hours above 40 hours a week when necessary to meet project deadlines and client demands.
