To ensure success as an electrical design drafter, you should possess excellent mathematical abilities and a keen eye for detail. Ultimately, a top-notch electrical design drafter should have detailed knowledge of a variety of electrical systems and excellent problem-solving abilities.
Responsibilities:
- Meeting with engineers and sales to determine project requirements.
- Creating high-quality single line diagrams (SLD), wiring schematics, cable schedules, and bills of materials, and taking ownership of deliverables.
- Generating technical specification documents, installation guides, and user manuals.
- Ensuring that all electrical plans meet regulatory and safety requirements.
- Resolving any electrical planning issues and developing effective solutions.
Requirements:
- A recognized certificate in drafting and design or computer-aided design & drafting (CADD), such as a Design Drafting certificate from ADDA or a two-year associate degree from a technical institute or community college. A bachelor's degree in electrical engineering is preferred.
- A minimum of five years of experience as a self-motivated electrical drafter.
- Minimum five years of drafting experience related to power generation and heavy industrial equipment.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Windows 10/11 and the Office Suite.
- Demonstrated proficiency with EPLAN and AutoCAD Electrical.
- Excellent understanding of low-voltage (LV) and medium-voltage (MV) circuits, AC motors and generators, both theory and practical application.
- Ability to perform load analyses, and size cables, circuit breakers, and other components.
- Experience creating SLDs, schematics, cable schedules, panel/equipment layouts, and bills of materials.
- Knowledge of applicable international electrical codes and standards such as IEC, UL/ULC, CSA, NEC, TuV, etc.
- In-depth knowledge of electrical safety regulations, building codes, and health standards.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Strong interpersonal and team collaboration abilities.
- Commitment to staying updated with developments in electrical systems and best practices.
- Excellent English communication skillsreading, writing, and speaking.
