Job summary

E Tech Group in Portage, IN is seeking a Controls Engineer to design, implement, test and startup automation solutions for metals industry projects, working with project managers and other engineers onsite.

The role requires 3+ years with motors and drives, PLCs, HMIs, and SCADA, plus strong problem-solving and teamwork; responsibilities include system architecture, hardware configuration (AC/DC drives, switchgear, control panels) and field start‑up testing.

Qualifications

BS Engineering degree or equivalent educational background.
3+ years of experience with AC or DC motors and drives, PLCs, and HMIs.
Industrial Automation experience.
Working knowledge of PLC, VSD, and SCADA systems.
Strong software and data communication problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
Lead field start-up testing and site acceptance testing.

Responsibilities

Design and implementation of automation and control systems for metals industry applications.
Collaborate with engineering and other support teams to ensure successful project completion.
Manage project budget and schedule requirements.
Develop and maintain standards and best practices.
Develop system and communication architecture for industrial control projects.
Specify and configure hardware components such as AC/DC drives, switchgear and industrial control panels.
Perform functional testing of electrical and control systems.
Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers.
Support the sales team in the development of technical solutions.
