Job summary

Ohio Gratings is seeking an Electrical Controls Engineer to lead controls and automation for production lines in Ohio. You will design, specify, procure, and implement control systems, write PLC/HMI software, and support commissioning and training.

You will collaborate with teams on safety compliance, system testing, and ongoing maintenance, driving improvements and reliability across equipment and processes.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in electrical/mechanical/mechatronic engineering or equivalent.
• 3–5 years writing and troubleshooting PLC/HMI software for machinery.
• Experience with Rockwell and Siemens PLC/HMI software.
• Experience with robotic controls: Fanuc, Yaskawa/Motoman.
• Knowledge of AutoCAD and electrical/hydraulic/pneumatic systems.

Responsibilities

• Manage capital projects from inception through implementation.
• Develop and implement control systems for new and existing equipment.
• Generate schematics and panel layouts using CAD.
• Conduct system simulations, testing, and on-site commissioning.
• Provide guidance to electrical technicians and support safety compliance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

• Perform project management of capital projects as required
• Develop and implement control systems for new and existing equipment
• Generate schematics and panel layouts utilizing CAD
• Conduct system simulation and testingPerform on site commissioning and training as required
• Create critical sparts parts lists & suggested PM procedures where applicable
• Support existing control systems via troubleshooting and maintenance
• Provide direction / specification for external machine procurement
• Write or approve internal controls engineering specifications
• Evaluate safety controls for compliance and implement appropriatecountermeasures
• Implement migration paths for obsolete controls and components
• Provide guidance/mentoring to the electrical technicians
• Continually promote safety as a top priority
• Perform other duties as assigned

EDUCATION, WORK EXPERIENCE, AND PROFICIENCIES

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical/Mechanical/Mechatronic Engineering or equivalent experience
• Strong Process Engineering background a plus
• Experience managing and executing capital projects
• 3- 5 years minimum experience with writing and troubleshooting PLC/HMI software for machinery or equipment and be familiar with electrical hardware
• Experience with Rockwell and Siemens PLC/HMI programming software
• Experience with Robotic controls system, Fanuc and Yaskawa/Motoman
• Experience with AutoCAD or equivalent
• Knowledge of Hydraulic and Pneumatic control systems
• Knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, and RIA standards
• Excellent oral and written communication skills as well as excellent computer skills
• Ability to work with minimal supervision
