The Senior Electrical/Controls Engineer plays a key role in executing global projects by enhancing manufacturing capabilities, providing innovative engineering solutions, leading project management, and fostering a collaborative environment within the packaging industry.
This position can be based in Charlotte, NC, Simpsonville, SC, or Duncan, SC, with a hybrid work schedule.
- Utilize your Electrical Engineering degree and 8+ years of experience in electrical design and project engineering to solve complex engineering challenges from concept to startup.
- Apply your communication skills for effective project execution, managing the full project lifecycle including estimates, planning, BOM creation, procurement support, stakeholder management, and milestone achievement.
- Engineer advanced control systems for production lines, including designing, programming, and refining PLCs, HMIs, SCADA, and industrial networks; configure motor control systems and electrical distribution.
- Design innovative software tools to improve manufacturing processes, monitor machine parameters, analyze data, and predict equipment failures.
- Contribute to advancing proprietary technology by enhancing equipment reliability, troubleshooting, designing upgrades, and overseeing the installation and startup of control systems and equipment.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical/computer engineering or related field from an ABET-accredited university, with 8+ years of relevant experience.
- Experience with 2D/3D CAD (DraftSight/SolidWorks Electrical), electrical schematic drawings, and configuration of VFDs (preferably PowerFlex).
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution (480V 3-phase, 110VAC, 24VDC), sensors, actuators, IO, and automation/industrial control systems (PLC, HMI, Ignition, Ethernet/IP, ControlNet, DeviceNet, Profibus).
- Understanding mechanical systems for control logic design, familiarity with industrial data capture, process data historians, and visualization tools is a plus.
- Knowledge of NEC, NFPA70E, CE, UL standards, and experience managing electrical installation and commissioning.
- Background in plastics packaging, extrusion, or converting, with experience in web handling, tension control, robotics, vision systems, and pneumatic systems is highly desirable.
- Enthusiastic, proactive, problem-solver with strong teamwork skills and ability to travel ~30% domestically and internationally.
