Role Description

As Controls Engineers, you will develop automation systems for AWS data centers, focusing on resilience, cost-effectiveness, and high uptime. You will work on multi-million dollar projects, standardize designs, resolve technical issues, and participate in R&D of new technologies. You will also write technical documentation, define equipment specifications, and serve as a subject matter expert.

Responsibilities
  1. Lead global electrical controls and power monitoring initiatives, focusing on HV/MV power systems (4.16 kV to 138 kV and beyond).
  2. Conduct root cause analysis of electrical incidents to improve designs.
  3. Review and approve modifications to the Controls Basis of Design.
  4. Serve as a global SME in electrical switchgear, generator controls, and power monitoring systems.
  5. Guide integration of renewable energy and energy storage systems.
  6. Stay current with emerging electrical power system technologies.
Work Environment

You will collaborate with stakeholders across AWS, including engineers, project managers, and operations teams. Projects may involve international travel (up to 30%), working on schematic and design documents, and understanding international electrical standards.

Qualifications
Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering or related field.
  • 5+ years experience with electrical diagrams, power monitoring, control circuits, HVAC.
  • 3+ years experience in data center or mission-critical facility design.
  • 2+ years experience with products like Siemens Apogee, Honeywell Building Controls, Schneider Electric PowerLogic, Rockwell FactoryTalk, Eaton Foreseer, ABB Decathalon, Johnson Controls Metasys, or similar.
  • Knowledge of power system analysis tools (e.g., ETAP, SKM, PowerFactory).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Professional Engineer or similar certification; experience with data center construction, operation, or maintenance.
  • Experience with large-scale projects and technical operations.
  • Knowledge of building codes (Life Safety, IBC, NFPA, NEC, OSHA).
  • Strong leadership, problem-solving, communication skills, and innovation mindset.
  • Ability to research and implement new technologies and methods.
