Job summary

BWX Technologies, Inc. is seeking an Electrical Controls Systems Engineer for our Lynchburg, VA facility. You will develop PLC programs, review specifications, and commission complex motion-based controls.

The role emphasizes testing, troubleshooting, process optimization, and maintaining schematics while ensuring regulatory compliance and collaboration with engineering teams. U.S. citizenship and DOE clearance ability are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology with 7+ years of experience.
• Moderate knowledge of PLC, HMI and controls programming (Rockwell/AB, Siemens, Mitsubishi).
• Working knowledge of NEC, NFPA 70E/79 and OSHA 29 CFR 1910 standards.
• Strong written, oral and interpersonal communication; teamwork is essential.
• U.S. Citizenship is required; ability to obtain DOE clearance.
• Ability to work independently with minimal guidance.

Your Day to Day as Electrical Controls Systems Engineer:

Development of PLC Programs for complex control systems Familiarity with Rockwell/Allen Bradley, Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc. is preferred. This may include but not limited to the following duties.

• Develop and review design and functional specifications.
• Develop test plans.
• Commission complex motion-based controls systems.
• Performing and documenting control systems testing.
• Troubleshooting software and hardware issues and implementing solutions.
• Analyze plant processes for improvement and optimization.
• Develop, maintain, and peer review design schematics for new and existing equipment.
• Specify and procure instrumentation and controls for new and existing equipment.
• Ensure compliance with applicable internal processes and regulations.
• Apply electrical theory and related knowledge to design and perform new installations and modifications to the facility power/controls distribution systems as required to support machinery and production at the NOG-L manufacturing facility.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or Electrical Engineering Technology AND seven (7) years of experience is required. However, other undergraduate degrees may be considered if technical/engineering content is merited.
• Moderate knowledge of PLC. HMI and Controls Programming (Rockwell/Allen Bradley. Siemens, Mitsubishi, etc.)
• Working knowledge of National Electric Codes, National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) codes 70E and 79 and 29 CFR 1910 OSHA Standards.
• Must be able to demonstrate superior written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills in order to motivate others to succeed.
• Ability to work in a team-oriented, collaborative environment is required.
• Must be a U.S. Citizen.
• Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) clearance.
• Works independently and with minimal guidance in most situations, interprets internal or external business issues and recommends best practices or solutions.

Pay: $$85,000- $$134,000

The base salary range for this position in Virginia (US-VA) at the start of employment is expected to be between $$85,000 and $$134,000 per year. However, the base salary offered is based on local job market factors, and may vary further depending on factors specific to the selected job candidate, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as an annual cash incentive in addition to a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,’ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement. The company further reserves the right to modify base salary (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or individual department/team performance, and other market factors.
