Our client is a highly successful and admired industrial fabrics manufacturer seeking an experienced and top-notch Electrical Controls Engineer to further expand the already high-level maintenance group.

Description

Our client is a global leader in nonwoven fabric solutions, specializing in providing innovative fabrics to the hygiene, medical, and industrial markets. Our North American headquarters in Upstate, SC offers an excellent opportunity for an Electrical Controls Engineer to join our rapidly growing team.

Under the general direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Electrical Controls Systems Engineer evaluates current and future needs for asset management of automation electrical controls systems. This role involves planning, performing unplanned, planned, preventive, predictive, and corrective electrical maintenance on core process and auxiliary equipment in a continuous process manufacturing facility. Availability outside of core business hours may be required.

Requirements
  • Lead/support internal Project and Maintenance Engineers, Technicians, OEMs, vendors, and contractors in designing, installing, and commissioning new equipment and process controls, including electrical component selection, design approval, software assessments & modifications, machine testing, and troubleshooting.
  • Specify PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, motors, drives, sensors, vision sensors, and data collection software, ensuring compliance with company standards. Evaluate electrical equipment from multiple sources and recommend best value options.
  • Design, modify, and troubleshoot PLCs, HMIs, and servo controller logic to enhance equipment and system performance. Oversee tasks and ensure software quality.
  • Perform high-level troubleshooting, critical thinking, and utilize resources to resolve electrical, mechanical, or process issues. Lead troubleshooting efforts involving PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, and robotics.
  • Support production, maintenance, and engineering teams to meet daily priorities and projects, often leading these initiatives.
  • Lead controls support during machine installations and upgrades, interfacing auxiliary equipment, troubleshooting programming and wiring errors, and ensuring vendor compliance.
  • Stay updated on new control technologies, industry trends, and safety regulations.
  • Identify opportunities to improve production performance, initiate, and complete projects accordingly.
  • Provide technical and operational training to personnel, sharing knowledge and training new staff.
  • Assist in project planning, budgeting, and forecasting.
  • Develop training matrices and organize documentation and troubleshooting guides.
  • Create safety procedures, including Lock-Out/Tag-Out protocols.
  • Proficiency with Siemens TIA Portal required.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Experience with manufacturing processes or large, high-speed equipment preferred.
  • Knowledge of statistical analysis, project management, and software packages.
  • Leadership skills to build, lead, and train cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent presentation, business acumen, and facilitation skills.
  • Flexible, innovative, and capable of setting priorities.
  • Knowledge of Quality Assurance/Improvement tools, QMS, and HSE standards.
  • Understanding of occupational hazards and safety precautions.
Other Requirements
  • BS Engineering Degree preferred.
  • 3-5 years experience in automation or controls engineering role.
